Education must help the young meet demands of globalisation: SM Goh By Wong Siew Ying, Channel NewsAsia
Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said Singapore's education system must equip the young with skills to meet the demands of globalisation.
He was speaking at the Bukit Panjang Government High School which celebrated its 45th anniversary on Saturday.
Mr Goh said education has played a critical role in Singapore's development and schools must continue to nurture the potential in their students - in both academic and non-academic areas.
And that's what the Bukit Panjang Government High School has done in recent years.
Its alumni included many officials in the Civil Service and Creative Technology's Chairman, Sim Wong Hoo.
Mr Goh praised the school's achievement and excellence in the Sciences and Malay Language Programme.
But academic development aside, he said schools should also encourage creative thinking, character building and promote artistic pursuits.
The Bukit Panjang Government High School - Singapore's first integrated government school - is among the top 20, out of more than 160 Secondary schools in Singapore. - CNA /ch ************************************************************ something he forget to say to the school... peanuts has a new meaning and peanuts mean 600k to his wife and all the rich.

they've been saying the same thing for 40 years and every year the students and the "scholars" get dumber... its no surprise that the streetsmart always win The Apprentice whereas the booksmart get booted out quite early.
