The only thing the gahmen will be keen on doing is increasing their coffers with more taxi licensing. With the introduction of silver, Union and SMART companies, they have already succeeded.
TP will manage bad driving habits. Coz it extends to general drivers as well as taxi drivers....bigger pool to catch and FINE. -

The Government should stop issuing licences to new taxi companies so there would not be a lot of taxis and will not be a nuisance to us

Not long ago, there was this case of a Chairman of a taxi company who beat up a young driver because of road rage. Remember? He was spared the jail term!
One of our jud*e mentioned that all road bullies would be punished with a jail term but strangely, after an appeal, his fine was lowered and he still need not go to jail.... (scratch head...)
Was just wondering who is this Chairman? Why he so special? Why in the first place he could get a taxi company's license? Is he "someone"? Anybody can share your knowledge? -
Around 11pm, most cabs refuse to pick up anyone unless you call.....

Actually I find the taxis are getting better these days. They actually stop and let cars go, I do come across some who practice road courtesy.
The worst on the roads these days are the TIBS Bendy buses!! They are so long that they take up a lot of space when they do turns. They jam up the left lane as well when they stop behind another bus at a bus stop. Its like having a 40 footer container trailer on the bus lane!

taxi drivers are on the road almost 15 hours daily, they face a lot of stress and road challenges, and as you all know, singapore roads are a big challenge and stress drivers, even experienced ones..
still, i have to agree many cabbies are devils on the roads, and like to play hot pursuit, such as in overtaking and changing lanes..
how else can you explain that many accidents you may see are majority involved taxis?
still, we cant always blame cabbies.. more like i point my finger at those youngsters who modify their dumb cars, such as Subaru Imprezas, Honda Civics, and some unknown hatchback cars .(maybe suzuki).. grrrrr.
and all these may been made worse by the recent Initial D movie

Yes. Taxi driving is now so competitive that they sped like hell.
I ride on a taxi which sped up to 120km/h before. I was rushing for time. But he was changing shift, but still he seems desperate to take me.
So, from Jurong East all the way to Changi Beach in just 30 minutes.
Luckily it was the witching hour, no car... But still it was darn scary.
One buang, that's it... I'm suing him in the court of Hell. -
Many of our taxis are definitely nuisances on our roads. There are countless accidents involving them or caused by them. A large number of taxi drivers are hot tempered and are emotionally unstable and I am sure most of us have encountered bad experiences with them either as passengers or road users.
As part of our country's excellence and continuous imrpovement programme to move up the ladder as a world class city, we should introduce more stringent tests for new and existing taxi drivers. At the moment taxi licences are issued liberally like free tickets, and are easily acquired as a back-up for unemployment by many people.
Besides knowing our roads which is the main test carried out today, they should be tested on their driving skills at a higher level, and also on their emotional temperament , behavior, and mannerism. This is because they are in control of a killer machine on our roads all day long. Poor driving skills and any instability in their emotional state can be disastrous.
A taxi licence should be a prized possession accorded only to drivers who are not only well versed in quality service but who are of sound and stable mind just like pilots because lives are in their hands. -
So if you do not want taxis,cars will be cheaper?

KNNBCCB, just when I say that Taxis are not that bad, I just kena one idiotic taxi driver on my way home.
It was at a traffic light controlled X- junction. I was in the middle lane and he was in the right lane side by side waiting for the lights to turn green. When the lights changed, I started to move off straight but I realise that the taxi beside me is coming in slowly into my lane. It was very squeezy as there was another car in the left most lane. What piss me off is that this taxi driver did not even signal his intention. So I honked at him. But he continued his slow cutting in motion.
I had no choice but to let him in. I over took him on the right, and looked at him. He actually stared at me. Then later, he overtook me on the right and honked at me!!!
Can anyone tell me what company these white coloured taxis belong to? Lin beh want to complain him liao, got his licence plate no. -

Correction: Taxis are not a NUISANCE on our roads. They are however, a MENACE, and an ACCIDENT going to happen.
I'd implore the proper authorities, look into Taxi companies who allow mad men to drive their cabs.
These are prevailing traits of Taxi drivers from all Taxi companies:
*** >> changing lanes or turning without signaling
** >> cutting into other motorists lane
*** >> pulling over to pick up passenger without hazard lights, or turning on
their hazard lights after they've made the sudden stop
** >> speeding above 120Kmh on expressways
* >> tailgating or driving around with high-beam on at night
*** >> not giving way at Yellow Box Junctions
** >> bullish behavior while driving

To all Taxi companies; PLEASE WAKE UP YOUR IDEAS!!! -
I believe the Traffice Police always close one eye for them compared to normal vehicles. I see so many taxis breaking rules on the roads all the time. They dun treasure their lives, but I treasure mine.
