Can any Singaporean - without any 'strong political muscle' - challenge the Singapore Government and the Singapore Parliament that is DOMINATED by ONE Political Party ?
Can such a Singaporean challenge the 'Political Will' of the Omnipotent Figure in the Ruling Party ?
Can such a Singaporean be EFFECTIVE in his job in protecting the Second Key to the Singapore National Reserves ?
Can this Singaporean be more effective in getting the information to our Singapore Reserves, when the late President Ong Teng Cheong could not - despite the fact that he is from the INNER CIRCLE of the Ruling Party ?
Well, if we do not want such a situation to happen again and to have any hope of perserving our rights, we really need to elect someone who can REALLY represent our views and opinions.Originally posted by Atobe:Brave ? Credible ? Independent ?

You seriously believe 100% of what our local media says?Originally posted by cornyfish2000:I like the idea of having an independent as the President but looking at the reports, i must say i have my reservations about this Andrew Kwan. He seems to me to be someone who only knows how to talk big but can't perform.
How does that compares with Nathan?Originally posted by cornyfish2000:I like the idea of having an independent as the President but looking at the reports, i must say i have my reservations about this Andrew Kwan. He seems to me to be someone who only knows how to talk big but can't perform.
If the Persident's Election is still going ahead as planned, please can I urge EVERYONE to go for the polls? Please do not be swayed by what you read in the papers! Don't vote for Nathan! He's going to get another $2 million every year just for listening and doing what PAP wants!Originally posted by robertteh:Andrew Kuan might be someone who has some problems with his jobs and is now trying to get a better of himself in life by running for presidency which in his own perception is a way to vindicate himself, he is still a human being.
As human being, he should be allowed to contest an election whether for presidency or MP. A hawker, an unemployed or a housewife can similarly run for office. People may reject him or her at the ballot but please do not follow the example of establishment to run down our dying breed of political participants. People are mature like what Nathan is now saying after 40 years of independence. If he is sincere in this remark, then he should advise the establishment to let people judge Kuan with their own uninfluenced sharp eyes and keen perception.
People will know and should be left alone without all the defaming suit or compulsion to judge any candidates for themselves without hitting below the belts which is just as bad as any poor job performance of Mr. Kuan. It is time for people to understand what they should do in any election and not be pressurised by any character assassinations or press sensationalism aimed at running down our dying breed of political participants.
Must have been some technicality that he failed to clear.Originally posted by Archirodon:Sorry folks. It's a walkover for Nathan. Haiz.... There goes a holiday.
Pity walk over. Guess the prophercies by some forumites are right. The gov by making all the negative remarks about Kwan are preparing the masses to accept this fact that Kwan will not be approved to run for election.Originally posted by durai:If the Persident's Election is still going ahead as planned, please can I urge EVERYONE to go for the polls? We really need someone else to look after our reserves, rights and dignity as S'poreans!
I suspect it is the "Gov has no confidence of him being a controllable President" techinicality that he failed.Originally posted by iveco:Must have been some technicality that he failed to clear.![]()
The criteria is not transparent enough. It seems that the election department can reject anyone who is not supported by the gahmen.Originally posted by iveco:Must have been some technicality that he failed to clear.![]()
