NSF=Source of cheap labour.
The government will never pay them anything above "allowance" level, because it is their "duty" to serve their country.
But for the MPs, Minsters, grassroots leaders, etc etc etc, we must pay them huge salaries and benefits so that they will serve their country without stealing from its coffers. I guess its because they find it impossible to hire people of integrity these days.

Yes- but my point is that US NG soldiers are being paid more for serving their nation. US$900 is about S$1500. To any NSF here, being paid $1500 basic every month is a lot of money. That doesn't include the college sponsorship and other bonus-related pay as well. -

regulars are delegated with more responsibilities... so if something goes wrong it is the regulars that suffer most, not the nsfs that carried out the task.

Anyway the soldiers did not die putting their lives at risk. Nobody wants to put their lives at risk or freaking die. Its just some screw up in the Army. Who wants to die running or murdered in a bath tub.
Funny how killing a man this way is not amountable to homocide at least.
Also once regulars sign on, they get their regular fat pay even during the 2yrs they serve as Nsf. Since its a duty why not pay them until they finish their NS term? If they give me like 3yr contract I sure take. Also contrary to the believe, I think regulars do enjoy better life than Nsf.
Money, the govt got alot. so many $million for NUS high sch, budget surples.
Why not return the extra money to the people in Singapore making the sacrifice. -
USA spends also about 4.5% of their GDP on defense , which amounts to 460++ US billion..
We spend also around that percentage , but a heck of alot of difference when it comes to the salary of the basic soldier -
USA troops are paid more , but when war comes , you will be the eventually sent to fight over-seas...
Judging from previous wartime history of USA , i think its safer to serve with SAF..
at least you get to keep your life and the allowance.

I think the logical thing must be for regulars to be paid at the same rate as their nsf counterparts for the 1st 2 years of their service. This can be done either by reducing the pay of regulars or by increasing nsfs pay. Either way will do.

(which means it is a cheapskate form of security), why shouldn't NSmen opt out such cheapskate service paying the liability of $500/mth?
If they say cannot because of constitution, then amend the constitution to put it into effect lah since the constitution make NS so cheapskate.

Dun complain liao lah ... Last time i recruit... think the pay 100 ++ nia... you guy very fortunate already have better welfare (food, allownance etc) , better equipment (boot , helmet, webbing, ) compare to us ... when I was a corporal my pay then was $230... I think not even a recuit pay now... talk about the five day week now....I never had a long weekend in my entire 2.5 yrs hard to believe rite? but its true!

Die for the country...? The only time when NS men should be dying for the nation is during war, not in the hands of his own people especially in peace time.
L L kena-ed shot or slashed by a foe on the field is what used to be an honor... Because we also shooting at them. Die due to the silly-ness of some sick minds is a total disgust. And mind you, SAF is crawling full of such funny people. I don't mind telling you a list of those I encountered...
