i think what u hv decribed above is happening in all workplaces and is not exclusive to SAF only...Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:The fact about life is that officers sit inside room , get good job and nice pay for reading books and playing a red-alert life and death scenario by moving you all around.
The fact about you is that you are those cheap 100 dollars Red alert soldiers that come out from barracks
is it really that funny?Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:If you die , people don't give a damn
Except for the fact that your name will probably take a size 50 font in kranji memorial![]()

isn't it ironic coz they signed on volunteeringly only on a megre US$900? In exchange for "reservist" duties?? Knowing fully well that there are strong likelihood they would be deployed?Originally posted by timothytsgsg:US National Guard soldiers are paid a basic US$900 a month for their services- and that doesn't include bonuses and money to pay for the soldier's college(University) tuition fees.
The NS men are vastly underpaid while the state pays too much money for military hardware. I sense a vast un-balancing of financial priorities here honestly.
simply by your argument, regulars deserved to earn more.Originally posted by lwflee:Yes, but NSFs have no choice. Regulars join voluntarily. They might have join ed because they 'love their country and they want it to be free to be free', and because they love the military life.
lets not forget that the principle of nsf is not about $$$ but a duty.Originally posted by Cindyfeh:I don't think many are gian about the meal allowanes, lodging and free medical. Male forumites, will you rather exchange all these benefits for a waiver of 2 years of NS?
Lets give our ministers $1000 allowance a month, a bunk, free food and medical then.Originally posted by hmsg:lets not forget that the principle of nsf is not about $$$ but a duty.
Yes- but my point is that US NG soldiers are being paid more for serving their nation. Besides the fact that the Bush adminstration do spend money on military hardware, they also know they cannot underpay their soldiers(at least from a Singaporean's view anyway).Originally posted by hmsg:isn't it ironic coz they signed on volunteeringly only on a megre US$900? No. But their pay is much better than ours.Originally posted by ditzy:But are they conscripts?![]()
So you saying that Nsf don't put our lives at risk as regulars do?Originally posted by hmsg:i totally disagree that nsfs are doing the same job as regulars.
regulars are delegated with more responsibilities... so if something goes wrong it is the regulars that suffer most, not the nsfs that carried out the task.
regulars are paid more also because they signed on not only liking the job but also take on the risk that they will be there to put their lives at stake. nsfs???
btw never forget that allowances does not equal to salary.
Because they're not conscripts, NSFs are.Originally posted by timothytsgsg:No. But their pay is much better than ours.
That is your assertion. My point is that their love of their country should be payment enough.Originally posted by hmsg:simply by your argument, regulars deserved to earn more.
That varies among units. Further, taking on greater responsibilities would be good for your career. It gives you an opportunity to shine.Originally posted by hmsg:regulars are delegated with more responsibilities... so if something goes wrong it is the regulars that suffer most, not the nsfs that carried out the task.

You forget that there are many people whose family needs NSFs to help relieve the household burden.Originally posted by About A GaL:think about it lah. for 2 years your parent dont need to spend on your meal and u stay in camp to save electircity water medical bill..
Of course. $500/mth only wat. If they can pay "peanuts" for national securityOriginally posted by Cindyfeh:I don't think many are gian about the meal allowanes, lodging and free medical. Male forumites, will you rather exchange all these benefits for a waiver of 2 years of NS?
Agree.
Lets give our ministers $1000 allowance a month, a bunk, free food and medical then.
Not necessarily true... What if some honorable chap such as Durai would donate on regular basis to SAF...?Originally posted by juz_A_gal:since u say that NSFs are paid with our taxes, if they raise the salary any higher, won't that mean even MORE taxes for us?
But death could also end up as a result of crazy people doing crazy things or due to the prank of some perverts...Originally posted by hmsg:is it really that funny?
so u must be laughing at those soldiers that died recently?
dun forget the difference is they all died for the country and were willing to put their life at stake... so pls do not job about such thing....
