If this happens, LALEE will be in the same league as Global Hawk (not in terms of endurance but in terms of application)Originally posted by YourFather:Read in September's Jane's IDR that Singapore's LALEE might gain IOC in 2008, and 20 platforms might be needed. Also, a scaled down version of the Erieye may make its way into the platform, but its only one of quite a few contenders, others being Elta's EL-2055 radar.
eh.... i think the other netters is implying that the SAF is gonna get its own version of 'GLOBAL HAWK' through local R and D....Originally posted by YourFather:sorry to blow your hope for the Global Hawk, but these are 2 passages from AWS&T:
"FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS are interested in Global Hawk, but neither it nor Predator can be exported given current interpretations of missile agreements. Among other restrictions, payloads are limited to 500 kg. (1,100 lb.), and range cannot exceed 300 km.(160 naut. mi.). Both Global Hawk and Predator break the treaty limits"
and a more recent
"The State Dept. and Pentagon have found a formula to allow exports of Northrop Grumman's Global Hawk high-altitude unmanned reconnaissance drone. There was concern that the Missile Technology Control Regime effectively barred the U.S. from proliferating the technology. But State and Defense Dept. officials agree the U.S. could share systems like Global Hawk on a case-by-case basis with other NATO members, Japan and Australia. The Aussies are especially interested. Also watch for interest from Germany, where the UAV is expected to make an appearance later this year. Excluded under that arrangement are some other countries friendly to the U.S., though, including Israel--which has a healthy UAV industrial base of its own--and Singapore, which doesn't. And even for those on the approved list, exports will have to be justified on U.S. national security grounds. "
But seriously, do we need a global hawk? Not to sound like a sour-grape, but I think its waaaay over capable for our requirements. overcapability results in increased cost. Whatmore with the global hawk's cost skyrocketing due to USAF's habit of goldplating things(it actually costs what, 73 mil per plane now?), I dont think we can afford it.
Maybe Phalcon of Israel.Originally posted by Anza Andy:Siince 1997, Singapore wanted to replace E2C with hawkeye 2000. But now Singapore is looking something more capable like the E3. Any others same capablity as the E3 if US do not want to sell it to Singapore?

See Transfers and licensed production of major conventional weapons: Imports
sorted by recipient. Deals with deliveries or orders made 1992-2001 it is in PDF though.
Secondly, I also found this interesting site Israel, S'pore cooperated on new anti-tank missile and it indicated that Singapore is trying to develope an anti ship missile with French help (probably Exocet or ATT-15 derivatives). I wonder why Singapore wants to do that. Can't we just license build either Exocets or ATT-15? Why not just license build Gabriel III both sea launch version and air-launch. Who knows, with some Israeli help, we might even come up with a sub surface launch version like the Harpoons.
Anyone has got any idea?
Hmm.....the specs for the SR series a bit too short. 800m ?? I would prefer longer range weapons. But then guess it would make a good support weapon. Load a jeep/LSV with around 10 to 20 tubes...Hit and run.Originally posted by bcoy:I think co-operation with France could be on the ship launch version of the Scalp.
The anti-tank weopon in question is the Spike series. This series is now renamed - Gil is now Spike MR, Spike is Spike LR, NT-D is Spike ER. Also in development is the new Spike SR - a lightweight (9kg) weopon. http://web.referent.ru/nvi/forum/files/Ev_mp/SpikeSR.jpg

The current Spike we have only have forward vision that some how restrict the operators field of vision. Newer version under development (dunno if sg is involve)have 180 degree field of vision from the missle . This create better situational awareness and allow greater flexibility for the operator to change target after the missile is fire.Originally posted by Joe Black:People, I finally found a site that clearly states that Singapore has purchased Python 4 from Israel.

Co-operation for Scalp naval version is virtually impossible cause our present technology doesnt give us the ability to involve in this joint development which is rather sophisticatedOriginally posted by bcoy:I think co-operation with France could be on the ship launch version of the Scalp.

For spike aTm what i know it has Land and air version the one SAF is using is the 4 km one.
