War ?
Will Malaysia start a war with Indonesia over the haze caused by the razing of agricultural land ?
Most of the fires in Indonesian Sumatra are started on Palm Oil plantations to clear the secondary vegetation.
Will it not be more surprising that there are more then FIFTY Malaysian Palm Oil Companies that have moved into Indonesia ?
These Malaysian Palm Oil Companies have found land and labor costs in Malaysia to be no longer competitive, and have moved to Indonesia to start joint-ventures with Indonesian companies in new Palm Oil Plantations in Sumatra and Kalimantan.
The reasons for the higher costs of operation in Malaysia is not only caused by the increasing cost of land and labor, but also due to the tougher and new environmental laws that require these Malaysian Palm Oil Companies to invest heavily in new technologies and new equipment to clear the secondary shrubs from the plantations.
The lack of a comprehensive environmental laws, and the lax enforcement by corrupt officials, allow these Malaysian Palm Oil Companies to practise the cheaper clearing exercise of slash and burn on an annual basis.
Hence, the repeated annual problem with the haze.
Did the Malaysian Government send the Malaysian Palm Oil Companies to Indonesia, so as to put a bad light on the Indonesian Government in mishandling the haze problem ?
Wars have been started over some pretext, and purposeful creation of petty misunderstanding.
Is this another plot from the ingenious Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Albar to tarnish the international image of Indonesia ?
Or perhaps another attempt at land grabbing by the Malaysian Foreign Minister ?
