Are GLC companies earning money or lose money in............

foreign investment?......One thing i find it very strange,why must the government keep on raising the cost of living so fiercely n trying every means to alter the CPF withdrawing regulations so as to "lock" our money inside the CPF board,are they losing alot of money in foreign investments?[]

Let me elaborate further.....If let say i am a boss n setup a company,if let say my company is doing well,i will of coz generously raise the salary of my workers n year of end bonus.But conversely,if my company is not doing well,then i will have to cut the pay of my workers or even retrench them.If let say my company is doing fine n yet i cut the paid of my workers n bonus,that will mean that i am a "miser boss",which we rarely met in reality.[]
From what i observed of those ministers n government linked companies doings,they keep on retrenching workers or cut the pay n invite foreign workers to work in the GLC so as to cut the cost of expenditure.All these make me feel that the government are actually losing alot of money in foreign investments.Otherwise,they have no reason to raise the cost of living n yet retrenching workers without any logical explanation!!![]

Of coz,if the government is earning money n yet doing all this dirty retrenching thing,then our ministers might be so-called "miser ministers".But no matter what is the reason,both scenerio will lead to bad reputation of our ministers.So,what is the god damn reason for our government to retrench n employ foreign workers so as to cut cost.Are our government linked companies earning money or losing money in foreign investment,post ur view here. -
We will never get to know because government is not going to tell for reasons that are of too complex that we will never be able to understand! The easiest way to answer your question is "trust me, we have the best people, we have the best scholar, we have the best foreign talent in our team to take care of the funds".

Don't know how they keep the account but the last time Ong Teng Chong asked for it, they say they require 10 years to get the numbers right. Probably they will tell u the status of the account now in 10 years time.

The last I heard about Tamasek Holdings treasure chest was - Tamasek has more than $50 billion cash (not including assets) stashed in the bank.
It really hurts to think that PAP Government is not sharing so much of their wealth with ordinary Singaporeans.
They sucked all our savings through HDB, CPF, all sorts of taxes, high PUB charges,ERP, COE etc.. and hundreds of miscellaneous taxes like GST...
Only people who benefitted from Tamasek's wealth are the the big bosses, MPs , ministers, foreigners. They get big directors fees, bonuses and massive GLC company share options.
The real people who contributed to Tamasek Holdings fortune DO NOT GET TO ENJOY even a small portion of it.
And PAP dare to call this a just and equal society ! Pui ! -

Any disclosure will bring the house down. Look at NKF for example. Just talking about peanut .... then what happened? Just imagine when billiions are being mentioned...... then what will happen?
If President Ong is not able to get to the bottom of it, we think we will? Good luck for trying. -

Can the GLC companies earn money when they are always the late-comer into any profitable business ?
We have seen the late entry of GLCs into the chip making industry - losing out in competitiveness to the Taiwanese and Koreans.
We have also seen the $500 Million dollar bust in the late entry into the Hard Disk Drive industry, with the complete takeover of Micropolis.
We have also seen the failed attempts to bust the profitable stranglehold of the local businesses in commodities - (rice, sugar, steel, cement, stone, sand, etc) - at a loss that remains the speculation of Singaporean's imagination.
We have yet to see a GLC taking the lead into any 'sun rise' industry - venturing into new fields of technologies, of research and development; and even when decisions are made to invest in such technologies, it is always in an area that some other countries have also laid their eyes on.
The Government has place emphasis on Biotech Research - in the hope of reaping the benefits of research into new medicines, and this is also an area that is targetted by the First World countries of France, Germany, Japan, Korea, UK and the USA.
Can we succeed on our own effort ?
The answer is 'No' - as Singapore lack men with vision, guts and political strength to push a program through, when all decisions are made from the very TOP.
Do the talents employed by the Ruling Elites have the vision and political strength to bring Singapore in the right direction, or are their vision being tweaked and limited in the direction of the focus preferred by the Ruling Elite ?
We have instead, taken a safer route, by entering into joint-ventures with other MNCs, or some reputable research groups, pumping our money as contribution in place of expertise.
We should perhaps learn from Brazil, who have invested money in the search for an ALTERNATIVE fuel to oil.
Brazil has succeeded to make usable fuel out of sugar-cane, which has been successfully tried out to fuel its domestically manufactured jet aircraft - the Embraer; and the fuel cost only US$25 per barrel, compared to the last reported current price of US$67 per barrel.
The search for alternative is now on, with France and Germany experimenting with the stalks of wheat, and China experimenting with maize.
Singapore alternates with Rotterdam to claim the first and second spot as the World's largest refining and oil trading center.
Will either one suffer a demise, when alternative fuel become a roaring success, and soon the huge refinery complex may turn into ghost facilities.

I agree with the alternative fuel theory.The Scandinavians are experimenting with Hydrogen and Fuel Cells while we are still harping on Naptha.
Better to spend moeny to slowly wean ourselves off oil as the main pillar of our energy sector than to shoot fireworks into the sky almost every darn month and conduct farcical charity shows. -
