I wonder, as the Head of the ISD, does this position require Financial training to read any Billion Dollar accounting of the ISD or anyone's accounts ?
As the Chairman of SPH, does this position require any Financial background to administer the finances of the Corporation, or is this left to the CEO and CFO to advise and support this 'figure head' position ?
As the High Commissioner, does this position also involve any management of large finances ?
All the appointments held by the incumbent President-Elect S R Nathan were political appointments that were assigned to him, and his career path was one that was developed by the Elites in the Ruling Party, who have trust in his ability to be loyal to their Politics.
It is a nice reward for his past years of loyalty and for his final years as S R Nathan approach 80, receiving an annual salary of slightly over S$2 million, which will leave a tidy sum of S$12 Million from the past six years, and another S$12 Million for the next six years.
It is almost better then striking the Big Sweep every year for twelve straight years, as other perks are also included. -

Suffice to say, I'm just voting for the mascot for our country. I'll love to see a cute and chubby one up there.
The realilty of it is, the president is just a ceremonial role. He is just an established figure. An animal whose photo is hung in every public sector to remind the people... that this place is owned by the Government.
It does little difference, who actually is in the office. His role is to celebrate National Day, go attend to other mascots like Queen of England, Sultans in Malaysia etc. -
Anyway.. just to say again..
Andrew Kuan never held office for an important role. His role as a Chief Finance Officer does not technically qualify.
If JTC doesn't even wants to admit Andrew Kuan's legibility, what makes you think of his credibility?
Your nathan may be pap-elected but he at least director for several kachang-puteh co and organisations.
He once director of company for the money used to buy kachang-puteh.
