With the Ruling Party locking all the doors to allow Singaporeans the RIGHT to PARTICIPATE, Singaporeans have forgotten about these Rights - especially during the good years when the Ruling Party had succeeded in achieving their first goal of
'Filling the Stomach, and Dull the Mind'.
Now that the Stomach is half full - (some are empty) - many Singaporeans have forgotten how to exercise those rights, and DO NOT believe that they are entitled to those Rights.
Some Singaporeans with Dulled Minds are even afraid to exercise those Rights.
Fortunately, with education becoming more universal, and with a larger pool of Singaporeans graduating with Tertiary Education - 'the Dull Mind is also a Thinking Mind, even when the Stomach is Full'.
In a situation where Singapore has a large pool of Thinking Minds, and with many idle from a tight job market that also see a 4.5% unemployment, this presents the biggest political nightmare for the Elites in the Ruling Party.
This scenario can be explosive, as the Elites in the Ruling Party have always been fearful of a large pool of idle graduates.
This is the reason for Singapore having only TWO universities over the last FORTY YEARS - and during the 1970s, the Ruling Elite also required
Certificate of Suitability for applicants to the NUS or NTU.
It was only during the two recent years, were decisions made to move ahead in creating two additional universities to produce a higher grade of 'Technocrats' - that will support a new move into new economic territories.
However, can a shackled population - with limited and guided access to information - develop ENQUIRING and THINKING minds that are needed for Research and Development ?
