You should regret if you did not travel out of Singapore in this life time of yours to see the worst in the neighbouring countries and appreciate the best in a resort island called Singapore.
Singapore practically has nothing when we talk in term of natural resources. What we have is a natural strategic habour where the East meet the the West, and the rest, the small population of around 3millions people!
That success was mainly due to the prudent and pragmatic management of the ruling govt and it's wise that we keep a low profile and not to brag about our success as it may be a "sensitive issue" among sensitive neighbours who are in deep economic doldrums and messy political storm!
PSA should keep a low profile too even it has done well in its port management. Otherwise jealous would-be competitors may cut a canal through the Isthmus of Kra in South Thailand to strangle the flow of traffic through Singapore if they found it so lucrative! Its no harm to remain humble yet transparent in its dealings. If we boast too much, we may enrage our neighbours and they may do something irrational to harm our livelihood!
Our MPs and ministers have shown tremendous restrains when our neighbours time and again bashed us irrationally. These have shown the level of education Singaporeans have attained and naturally it will ward off some foreign desperados who try to score points in their dosmetic political arena.
Whether you are young or old, no matter how we must keep pace with technology. If we dont try to be productive, how to be much higher paid than others and keep yourself competitive? More MNCs will move out of Singapore if we do not raise our level of productivity to remain viable and competitive!
If Singapore doesnt save for rainny days, how to whether the storms which swept the region again and again?
To prove my points that you are in a resort Island called Singapore, take a short trip to Manila's suburb to see how the scavengers
survive in the rubbish mountain.........
