Singaporean students get $100 each in Edusave top-ups.
SINGAPORE: Singaporean students below the age of 16 years (as on 1 January 2005) have been given $100 each in Edusave top-ups.
The Finance and Education Ministries say the money was deposited into the students' Edusave accounts on August 17.
The top-ups, totalling some $45m, were announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in February this year.
The Edusave Scheme provides students and schools with funds for enrichment programmes.
Starting from this year, the annual contribution to the Edusave accounts of eligible students will also be raised from $160 per primary and secondary school student, to $170 for primary and $200 for secondary school students.
Students who become Singapore citizens between August and December this year will receive the $100 top-up in December.
For enquiries on Edusave account balances, students can call the Edusave Phone Enquiry System Hotline at 6260 0777 from 8am to 10pm on weekdays and Saturdays. - CNA/ir
