Hahahahaha... Maybe that's why we've got even a cert for cleaners...Originally posted by modgurl:Hahaha! What's the obession with toilets? And what makes you think women these days know how to clean toilets? They know how to get someone else to clean the toilets for them.
There's a reason for the PM to highlight ITE and Poly edu. The P-O-A-U edu system produced too many lookalike breed of scholars and mindset and when you have that over 20 years, the economy of scholars collapses. There are no carpenters, shoe-makers, fashion designers, fashion models, song writers, musicians, etc but just too many "expensive" accountants, doctors, engineers, lawyers "everywhere" here for the IR and Marina Bay project. Fun in Sg surely will suck.Originally posted by modgurl:Eventually, when you're out in the working world, you realise that how you apply whatever knowedge you've learnt matters. I've experienced being subordinates to new superiors who were just out fresh from school. Since most came from an academic background, they try to apply textbook knowledge in the working place with unfavourable results.
I guess you have to ask yourself, why are you learning this? Why are you in school? If you're doing it because the government says it's the way to go, then I think you're just wasting your time. I think most people can't differentiate lifelong learning and studying. Most people study but they don't learn.
PM Lee highlighted ITE and Poly education in his ND Rally speech to reassure people that there are options to the education system here. It's not just the straight path from PSLE to GCE O to GCE A to Undergraduate. Whatever path we take, I think we have to do it with the right reasons. Ideally, people should respect that.
He could also be asking the local universities to wake up and start being real i.e. incorporate more practical modules in their syllabus.
You very smart. Usually when jobs like this one reaches $5000, then many people cheong for such certs, and you'd be there to capitalise on the 'upgrading' opportunities cos, again, usually you'd find something as the World's First Toilet Cleaning 101 Degree and Master program...Originally posted by ndsef:I am going to get me one of those toilet cleaning cert. Who knows, one day I might just be paid $5k (PV) to clean a toilet, bec all you degree snobs shun the low end jobs! After all the aunties and uncles hand in their I/Cs and Bangalore and India demand higher wages for their workers, I will be rich!!!

Don't people realise, now you can even apply for social workers for those higher position no matter how compassionate you are if you don't have the Degree for Social Works... kinda. A plump Malay lady was heard telling at one such career fairs quietly: '...eh, remove all those applications without (social work) degree qualification...'
As always, I happened to be there.
Now you all know how much passion cannot compare to one cert.[/b]
It's a must... Because in 1970s it was a must. In 1980s it still was a must. And so 20000s, it will still be a must.Originally posted by geran76:thats why people must understand that cert is sometime very important.. But is it a must?? Yeah... but that's not materialistic, that's basic man instinct. Who don't wanna make as much as possible while doing as little as possible?Originally posted by geran76:i agreed with that.. Lolz.. singaporeans are becoming too materialistics about the way of life.. Thats why we need to review the wages structure of all professionals.. And how much are they getting pay? Which i think unlikely.. Sigh..
Me too. Think you the only one meh?Originally posted by geran76:feeling like freaking hopeless.. haha..![]()

So you better study hard and get as many degrees as possible, and pass more social doors.Originally posted by joeacid:Hmm... Basically, degree holders are (What i call) "Society Pass" nowadays.
In fact, we cannot say if a degree holder is useful or not because it really lies on individual degree course of studies and the individual knowledge a person and realise out of a course. If the course is useless, it produce useless people. If a course is useful, it still can produce useless people who are walking on the streets jobless or being too unlucky enough to be there. Of course there are still some which are the more high end ones doing well out there.
There's simply no "Too many degree holders" now becoz like i said, its a Society Pass where people will one recognise you when u're a graduate. Juz like the guy who mention above, saying about the plump Malay lady who ask them to remove the application of those are are not degree holders.
People are too qualification orientated now. Whether or not the employee can work or not, it muz be judged through whether u can *pass* you exams in degree or not. It's actually also becoz of the "Boss saying rights" it has in the economic now where employers are choosing A class diamonds out of the bag.
Now if we turn around and look back in the 80s, unemployment rate were high but ones the MNCs came into Singapore, WE the empolyees has the rights to CHOOSE our job becoz we hve demands power thru the lack of skilled workers. But, the society now is that degree holders are the minimum requirement for applications in a very unofficial way as educated people CLAIMED to be more intelligence and knowledgable for the firms next generation.
Basically, if we look at the different kind of degree holders on the streets.
The local Uni ones, Overseas Graduates and Distance Learning ones.
The private sectors actually choose to take in the oversears and distance learning ones even though when the employer didn't know if the local ones would be better. They had the bad perception that SG education system is not "advanced" enough. Which caused alot of fresh graduates to suffer now.
Although the government is encouraging the people to study in local Unis, if you take close notice ard... you'll realised that the government sectors has alot of employees which take in distance learning/overseas graduate over the local uni ones. I'm not sure why but that's what i've been watching for the past few years. I really wonder what's going to happen to those Locals?
Well, anyway if anyone out there believes that there's too much bachelor degree holders, then aim higher rather than lower. Go for a Masters (Where is going to be like bachelor degree soon), Doctoral or a P.H.D! *That's the only thing you can bring along into grave, being called a Dr.XXX on ur tombstone :p
One FT scientist brought in by our Great Leaders once said that with a PhD, Singaporean scientists can get a job cleaning test tubes in his lab..Originally posted by Elfred:So you better study hard and get as many degrees as possible, and pass more social doors.
Singapore is rich enough to feed those who passed the doors... Hehehehehe... Very soon, even if you polish nears, you'd need a doctorate.
Take care.
