Many forumites keep talking about wanting to vote, just want to exercise their vote, regardless it is Presidential Elections or General Elections.
The PAP government would have satisfied your desire to exercise your constitutional right to vote by having a real Presidential Elections but it didn't. So you are not happy.
Thus, you want opposition parties to contest "ALL" seats so you could have a chance to exercise your vote. Now it is the problem of opposition parties to provide your constitutional right to vote?
Everybody wants to do ONE thing, to vote, BUT NOBODY wants to do ANYTHING to make this happen! That's strange isn't it!
I am not even asking forumites to become candidates in the coming GE. To run a successful campaign, we need alot of manpower! Polling agents, election agents, counting agents, helpers... etc. For one small single SMC, we need at least 100 helpers in various position. For one 6 seats GRC, we need over 300 helpers! Any volunteers here?
If not, then please, don't just "DEMAND" your right to vote. Nobody owes you a living or anything at all. You want your rights? Fight for it.

OK, so nobody owes us a living. Neither should we owe them the same. But is this the situation in reality? Some of us sweat blood as conscripts, but when it comes to job security, we are on the edge of our seats. This can't be allowed to go on. Those who made the most sacrifices for the country deserve some form of reward. I always stand in AMK GRC whenever I am back in Singapore as my business is there.... haha!
You mean whether I am standing as a candidate in AMK GRC? Do you want to join me there? I am still looking for good young candidates to stand with me in AMK GRC!
I need 5 good men and women, one must be an Indian, to stand with me in AMK GRC and this is provided that AMK doesn't become a SUPER GRC with 7 or 8 seats!

It is never too early to start.
If you are below 18 years old, you could be "Friends of WP Youth Wing", 18 years old, you could join WP Youth Wing, by age 21, you could stand for election already.
In fact, in Sweden, there is one MP who got elected while he was 19, studying in a university!

You will also notice lots of discussions on the internet but like I said, "We can talk till kingdom comes and Singapore political situation will still be the same a decade later".
By the way Mr. Goh, I agreed with your blog article "DonÂ’t just Talk, ACT! ~ Anti-Discrimination Laws". Ever since the 2000/2001 crisis, the gov has been talking about companies should hire older workers and career changers, etc. Its always just lip services. It is plain simple to any Singaporean that being law-abiding, the only way to goad companies to take in minorities is EEOC legislation. Sad to say no smell of such legislatin in the air. -

There is really no big hassle. Spend one day volunteering to be polling agent. If that is a hassle, walking to your polling station also a hassle too!

My question will be "Does the govt allow us or want us to vote???"
So many ppl who have passed age 21 have not exercised (no chance at all) this right. -

While in my heart, I support your cause, I will not be helping.
My concrete action plan is to migrate. I spend lots of time planning for migration and my only significant political contribution is to state my infamous "till kingdom comes" line in this forum. Hopefully that will encourage writers to be real players.

All these ppl complains about no chance to vote but didn't stop to think what is the fundamental cause of it. No opposition running in their respective GRC of cos no chance to vote lah. Y no opposition running? It's time we stood up for what we believe in, and in what we believe we should have.
If we don't register our unhappiness in the upcoming elections- whether held this year or next year- we may never will. LHL must be given a warning in the next election- and we must ensure that LHL will not get the yea vote and be like his father.
And if you want an alternative government, or that you wish that it may happen in the future, then the time is also now.
We must vote for the opposition now. We must register our displeasure. -

I think this is the most relevant happening in WP that could relate to this forum as many forumites here are young people. There is an age limit, from 18 years old to 40 years old. There are two levels of membership, one is full membership whereby you have to join as WP party member or just become associate member which does not require you to become WP member.
We are in the midst of planning for the upcoming event, most probably a forum on a subject that is interesting to youngsters. The Youth Wing also help in running grassroot activities in Hougang, like the coming Latern Festivals as well as social welfare events, like Free hair cut and giving out of rice to the needy residents of Hougang. The weekly giving away of bread by Food from the Hearts is also coordinated by YW members who happen to be in HGCC as well.
The Youth Wing also support grassroot activities like walkabout and Hammer sales.
The other happening of course is the re-organization of our two election fighting forces, Nee Soon Area Committee into Nothern Area Committee and GRC Area Committee into Northeastern Area Committee. This is to zoom in specifically on areas that we would be contesting in the next election. Volunteers are welcome to help out these two main fighting forces in their ground work.

Though we welcome people to vote for us, but we need to have a long term following instead of just "protest voting". The consistent growth of alternative parties' presence in parliament depends very much on the "enlighten" voters who vote rationally instead of emotional protest voting.
We are just too small to become alternative government now, but we need to start somewhere and the growth path is important. This growth path need die hard consistent support from people who understand and value checks and balances in the political system.

One thing u have to bear in mind Mr Goh Meng Seng,will Goh Chok Tong n Lee Kuan Yew have the "big heart" to accept opposition parties to participate in all the election areas?From the past experience,even the opposition have the qualification to compete with PAP in an election area,those "narrow-minded,selfish,arrogant and F**K UP" PAP leaders can still disqualified your eligibility to sit for the election.
Honestly speaking,i dont think that using a peaceful way can bring in real democracy into Singapore..........But nevertheless,i still look forward to the next general election to see how things go. -

We do not expect our gahmen to be like the emperor. I don't have an issue with the gahmen being like the "cruel general". I have an issue with them being the "cruel general" but telling others they are the "emperor". In short, why act innocent and call Singapore a democracy when apparently our so-called democratic values are twisted?
It seems you have a pretty skewed picture of what a democracy should be. You'd be better off living in the aristocratic middle ages. -
Actually I am below 18 years old and in Sec 2 now. I actuall stay in HOUGANG SMC which is controlled by WP and the MP is Low Thia Kiang. I know what kind of activities you all organised as I will sometimes refer to your noticeboard. But one thing to question why Hougang CC or RC held more activities which I joined some of them as they are cheap than the WP or TC which only once in a blue moon held an activities???Originally posted by goh meng seng:Dear Gorby,

What I am saying is that if you think you can get a level playing field, then you must be dreaming. Which country (democratic) gives their opponent a level playing field. Take them out and you can see how active PAP as a party actually is.
I am afraid you will need to differentiate the difference between PAP political party and PAP government before being able to see a clearer picture.
If Workers' Party takes over as government, they will be in control of CCs and RCs. Will it mean that Workers' Party will then become more active than PAP? Not true.
Lastly, Hougang Town Council does not organise activities
