I'm in NUS Faculty of Engineering.Originally posted by vindicated:More foreigners better (but sorry, not those frm PRC pls)!
Fellow Sporeans wake up!
It's a fact that most Sporeans hates/shuns engineering-related courses!
Most Sporeans prefer biz/econs/acc!
Blame urselves for not studying hard & always act hao-lian/dao to foreigners!
Precisely.Originally posted by hisoka:i only have an issue with the fact that they take the lousy pple and not the good pple in and waste money on them
I hv read a NUS student's comments on his foreign lecturers, I tot it is only a few. Don't these lecturers have great credentials & qualifications? & they are recruited from US Universities?Originally posted by octega:Not only the students BUT the dammn lecturers too!
Those from the india side still quite ok, their english is still comprehendable but those from china. WAH LAU EH! how the school choose them one?
In NTU, they make sure ur GP can make it and they make poly students take a english proficieny test. And WTF are they doing with the lecuters?
They should do this with the lecturers also, a Teaching ORAL proficinecy test. !#@$#@$![]()

most politicians, top gahment officials send their kids abroad for further education. as long as their kids dun study there, wat NUS n NTU do with their enrolment is no concern of theirs.Originally posted by av98m:What can you do...the singapore government is like a prostitute. In Singapore, the unofficial motto is 'Everything also want to be No.1'.Originally posted by charlize:Somewhere along the way, the concept of "university" was warped.
From a place for further learning, education and research, it has now become an entity to be pushed to "the top 10 in the world."
tis is my country - why must I leave n pian yi those migrants. I don't patronise the migrants who open restaurants nor business here. as long as majority of singaporeans dun support them, they will pack up & go. they shld go not us.Originally posted by Cindyfeh:Part of my tactic to circumvent this foreign talent and "second class" citizen shit is to migrate and perhaps come back to Singapore and work as an expat, aka foreign talent.
Out of everything you listed out above, which one requires spending money with no potential for monetary returns?Originally posted by fudgester:In Singapore, the unofficial motto is 'Everything also want to be No.1'.
No.1 airport, No.1 seaport, No.1 life sciences hub, No.1 petrochemical hub, No.1 medical hub, No.1 financial hub, No.1 university.... did I leave anything out?
In the end the ultimate goal is forgotten: No.1 in caring and well-being of its citizens.
I think as a foreigner in a foreign country, discrimination is natural, afterall you are intruding into their place.Originally posted by taurian:tis is my country - why must I leave n pian yi those migrants. Problem in Singapore is that you are discriminated by gov when you are a citizen! That is downright unacceptable! There is no way you can change how the gov treats the citizen so why don't you play back the game that the gov through at you?
Migrate and come back as a FT! You get better pay and more respect!
its been walk over year after year..Originally posted by taurian:for those who stay lets make our voices be heard during election times!

true... true... basically, there is no future...Originally posted by macjoe:Right here in front of our face, we see job, education priorities and privileges given to foreigners and the local squeezed. If this is the future we have arrived at, I think newly weds should think hard how life will be like here for their children when it's their turn to enter U and find a job here.
if there is a rumour, most probably it is true as of this case that you are mentioning...Originally posted by taurian:I hv read a NUS student's comments on his foreign lecturers, I tot it is only a few. The NUS student aso said the PRC lecturers tend to favour & help their fellow countrymen over Singaporean students.
Can more NTU & NUS students (even poly students) enlighten us on tis?
As a taxpayer & parent, I am pissed off!
true... true...Originally posted by mistyblue:anyways, the policy needs to be reviewed... obviously out of date and I think we should help our own fellow people first before we keep "helping" others (our govt has very badly misplaced "good" intentions) . Who in the political office dare to rock the boat. usually the politicians talk only and wait till its too late and only RE-Act to the issues that blew up in their faces.
I do not udnerstand why we cannot make these people pay their way through our school since the govt keep harping that we have "world" class schools. If its so "world" class, people would be willing to come here on their own $ and pay their way through - hence we really make Money from education services instead of handing money out to people who will never contribute and be a part of this society. Obviously, we are not "world" class as the govt like everyone to think and far from that, these FS come here realise it and go back to bad mouth sg again! I think once we really are "world" class and not just pretent ... people will flock here instead and beg to be in our system. Right now, out locals are marginalised in favour of FS and WE are doing the begging.
face it, none of us will be in the political office and even if there is, change is frown on... in this current office and I guess in any office. We are given "world class" education, exposed to the world and yet, when there is a concern that is raised, our leaders rather listen to white skin foreign "talent" they import than to their own people. Its quite useless to be educated in sg cause all the system want are obedient 2nd class citizen sheeps (sheep-tizens aka sh!t-tizens cause we do take a lot of crap). My view is that work hard for your money and save it. If there is any opportunity to move out of this place, do so and don't turn back and there is no regret. Being a 2nd class citizen here and being 2nd class over in another country... really makes no difference.
