  that is what I meant. Non oil producing countries cannot subsidise and singapore need only to reduce the tax on oil products.

  In Malaysia: buy proton, no import duty?
  buy foreign car: 300% import duty. no COE, cheap petrol
  
  in Singaopre: all cars 130% import duty, but have to add COE etc.

  MY, is partly to protect Proton
  
  Low road tax? Use Highway need to pay...
  
  Now public bus (Incl SBS) road tax -25%, car road tax -50%

  I am thinking very hard now about buying a car or get used to public transport. I believe car parking costs will go up, more ERP and charges will go up. It is not inconceivable now that oil prices will hit usd100 per barrel, and we will end up paying S$2 per lit at least. We are then talking about 400$ per month just on petrol! with average 70 km per day.
  
  By then it will be worthwhile going to JB just to fill up 1/4 tank.

  in malaysia, got to stay outside KL and klang area. driving is a nighmare there. outside of city area using cars become necessity but it is easy and very affordable.
