Whether 1st class or second is not important. Importantly, you must be able to work and amke %$%$%$. After all Ang mos are still better than asian. No, we are not sinking. I believe the proper word, less crude, is DEGRESSING.
Perhaps, our standing in global economy may have taken on a lacklustre apearance, but I hope and lets hope, our society's intrinsic values in terms of common courtesy and humility, takes a giant step forwards under these trying times.
Does not hard times, refines a person's or a peopls's sense of values, ethics, and general attitudes towards one another?
Singapore has been behumbled, I believe next in the lesson of humility is China.... they're running way way too fast for their own good.
Just look at the number of fatal highway accidents now in China. Many have thrown away their humble bicycle for flashy new cars to flaunt and zip down highways losing limbs and life.
I call that, foolhardy. -
The more i think on this topic, the more i am of the view that life for the general singaporean is indeed getting more difficult.
As reported the incomes of the bottom 20% has fallen, yet we can report increasing per capita GDP. It can only mean that truly rich are getting richer and poor are getting poorer. Those glossy GDP statisitcs mask this fact because of the fallacy of averages. Put a million dollar minister with a $12000 per annum worker and the average is half a million per person.
I am bloody skeptical of these statistics churned out by the government saying our lives are improving. Maybe our Lion City is becoming a tale of 2 cities -- one rich, one poor?
