They are afraid like NKF as there might be surpising revelations to cause raised eyebrows. In the first place there will be no concern if policies are made acceptable to people with accountable processes showing the way before implementation.
But then there is a way to practise accountable and transparent corporate governance. (read:
http://www.ospforohsopolite.blogspot.comIt is all in the will and the mind to be fair and objective with people. If one wants to do something good it can be done like Thaksin is trying to do. He will asking his ministers to declare their wealth. He declared that he will resign if he fails to solve certain major problems. Our highway collapses are buried under bureaucracy and pretentious inquiries with negligence reported by the suicide engineer all muted with no words about why he had to kill himself to avoid being crushed by imminent collapse mentioned.
At this point, we really need a Thaksin for Singapore because we have no ministers willing to lead by examples or taking responsibilities for failures. It is difficult now to try to open up half-way like NKF as there will be concerns, raised eyebrows but still good corporate governance is really the way to go for Singapore and some good leaders have to be found to do just that.
No need for more scholars !!! Just identify some forthright people from among populations people who will not screw others for no reason but purely want to get a job well done like Thaksin. Koizumi has shown such a character. Deng Xiao Peng has led the pack of objective and rational leaders.
