PM Lee expects strong support from voters when polls are called
By Asha Popatlal, Channel NewsAsia
But the situation is likely to be different from the polls in 2001 which took place immediately after September 11, and saw the ruling party get a strong 75 per cent of the votes.
Nah bei, after all those f**ked-up jobs done including the ever present rise & rise & rise & rise & rise of fares & bills, he dare to expect strong support from voters. Damn thick skin siah.Originally posted by LinYu:

GE so soon?Originally posted by Shigemichi Take:GE will be held in NOV or DEC. Civil Servants had their leave freezed from NOV onwards. (According to frens in Civil Service)
If you notice, before they call for the last, COE for all vehicles dropped tremendously.Originally posted by iveco:GE so soon?![]()
One of the old tactics is always a sudden announcement of GE. Very short notice so that they catch the opposition by surprise while they are all well prepared. It's the same old stale tactic mah...Originally posted by iveco:GE so soon?![]()
Doesn't matter if it's sudden or given 6 months notice.Originally posted by Archie_boy:One of the old tactics is always a sudden announcement of GE. Very short notice so that they catch the opposition by surprise while they are all well prepared. It's the same old stale tactic mah...

What is popular may not be good. After those choose to stay on the safe side, & vote for the ruling party, if anything goes wrong, they'll complain & complain. Piece of crap man!!! It is like personally lifting up a big stone, & then drop it & crush one's own foot. Crazy!!!Originally posted by mistyblue:why bother... we all know who will always win [/quote]
Yes we all know who will always win, but those who lived in areas where the opposition decided to challenge the ruling party, they can all just vote for the opposition, & kick the ruling party's arse out of that area. E.g. those living in Holland-Bukit Panjang GRC can forget about voting for the rest of their lives.
There'll be more opposition members in the Parliament, then that is the time when the Singaporeans will judge if the opposition fare better then those living in the ivory towers. If not, presently there're only 3 opposition members in the Parliament. One of them, Non-Constituency MP, bloody hell patronising man!!!

Hope Holland-Bukit Panjang gets contested this time. Bus service standards in Bukit Panjang are dropping and Holland Village has the upgrading fiasco. A lethal combo for the opposition to seize upon and deal a killer blow to the PAP.Originally posted by Spirit of Fire:Yes we all know who will always win, but those who lived in areas where the opposition decided to challenge the ruling party, they can all just vote for the opposition, & kick the ruling party's arse out of that area. 1. Ppl living in opposition location are starting to resent the opposition party for not doing enough for them such as upgrading. Ppl will give in when there are short term gains but long term pains cause the ppl are rather myopic. Those who can see had rather be call quitters.Originally posted by Spirit of Fire:Yes we all know who will always win, but those who lived in areas where the opposition decided to challenge the ruling party, they can all just vote for the opposition, & kick the ruling party's arse out of that area. I'm not sure about the situation whereby the people living in opposition location are starting to resent the opposition party for not doing enough for them such as upgrading, but the people not giving them a chance for them to perform, & yet they're giving the ruling party f**king damn lots of chances, bloody hell. How many of the people in our society get these astronomical amounts of chances, it is extremely few, or u can state it as negligble. It's very selfish of Singaporeans that they've this mindset that it's not their business!!!Originally posted by mistyblue:1. 2. PPl are easily bought over by false promises even when they are disappointed time after time by the high handed, mismanagement and broke promises - ppl still hope. Many people still feel they can trust the current govt dispite the many cover up and all the hush hush stories or corporate governance, nepotism, conflict of interest, dis-association with the ground levels and even the all important peanut issues.
3. Many ppl still feel current party is doing a good job. There's no impetus to vote for opposition. Even if its a wrong choice, ppl will never admit and lose face and will simply twist facts to justify the choice. Most also don't care who runs the country as long as things are not too bad. Others do not want to think cause its not their business.
4. GRC can be readjusted and regrouped to the disadvantage of the people. Then heavy weights such as GCT, MM Lee and BG Lee are used to sway the votes in these opposition grounds.
5. The current party is synomious as the govt. The absolute power held over all from president to the common man is all but total.
6. Ppl are extremely paranoid and fearful of voting against the current ruling party as there are reported cases of backlash against the citizens
7. PPl have sleective memory and even more selective ideas of what is a good ruling party. Most ppl are not badly affected by the economic crunch and they see no reason to vote for the opposition. (not counting all those who benefitted from the currernt party)
8. The lack of strong and good opposition and the current strong opposition are not young anymore with no replacements.
9. Effective use of propaganda to brainwash the ppl, instill fear of possible corruption, destruction and chaos if the opposition had more presence in the govt. PPl believe these things. That's why its call propaganda not truth.
10. Its been many many many years and many people never had a chance to cast their votes. Its called "election" but most of the members are not elected but its just a self nomination cause there is no one who dare go against the current party. The country self declared "democratic republic". But to make the word have meaning in singapore, we should just write to Oxford and other dictionary to ask them to redefine it to be something else more suitable to describe the situation in singapore.
coincidental or not.. who cares.. just grab the freebies..Originally posted by Shigemichi Take:If you notice, before they call for the last, COE for all vehicles dropped tremendously.
And juz days back, COE dropped mah. Could this be a tactic used by GOV or its juz too coincindental??![]()
