Home ownership in Singapore is overrated. The banks and the govenment are the real owners. Fall on hard times, miss a few payments, and they will swoop in, seize your home, and kick you out into the streets.
"Owning" a home just means you're commited to long term loan payments to a bank. -

how can prices of flat go down?
majority of existing 'owners' will suffer if that happens.
as far as property prices and cost of living is concerned we are at a point of no return. -
Another REIT in the making....HDB REIT (maybe)
Hong Kong already has formed a special REIT to buy over the public carparks from the HK gov. And the REIT is facing some diffculties over there. Things will becoming clearer once HK REIT case is settled.
