Always can't get past interviews.
My qualifications..bsc econs n mgmt...the kind of jobs i've been applying for are bank jobs. I've been for about 15 interviews at almost every bank since i grad...and after every interview i walk away thinking i did well and answered well...why in the end still didnt get picked for the 2nd round.
another thing that troubles me is....when they ask me to describe my hobbies i say Clubbing n playing piano....then they will say im too sociable for the job or too artistic.
So what the FCUK must i say at interviews to get thru 2nd round??? -
For well over three years since the last two recessions, I have posted to the Feedback Unit that the system of education encouraging people to be academically qualified in general education will be doomed to create a society of highly educated unemployed.
The new minister of education Mr. Tharma came in and has tried to switch our education system to one that is more practical equipping students to get jobs or apply knowledge of what they have learned.
Now what is being done to increase broad-based application of practical learning might be correct but it is like getting a bit too late.
To the educated people and those with tertiary or poly education, I would suggest that they take up something practical in the meantime and try to start their own small business. -

Perhaps you should have a mock interview with some friends to gauge why you can't advance to 2nd round. -

btw, the trend now is to lie or ur cv..since its banking job..u shudnt say clubbing..shud say sum conservative hobbies like collecting stamps or sth. -

Alexkusu: Lol. Collecting stamps?? One thing about me is i tend to blush and twitch my ears whenever i try to lie since young.It hasn't changed.
I was half awake this morn while watching CNA as i was having high fever...and i heard on news that unemployment rate has hit a high of 4% this month. ANyone can confirm this? I might have been hearing things as i was shivering and half dead cuz of the fever.
Another fren grad from NUS 5 months ago...still no job...working at some shop paying $5 per hour...his frenz from NUS who grad with him...also mostly working part time only -

why not look for jobs in the other sectors? eg, manufacturing, retail or even govt?
for your qualifications, you may want to try management trainee positions...
@ interviews, remember that you need to sell yourself to suit your prospective employer's needs... convince them that you have the skill set to help them fulfill their objectives or meet their expectations.
also remember to ask good questions about the company to show that you are interested in the company, and not just desperate to land yourself a job. -

interview process is not about you. Its about what they want to hear. You obviously don't know much after studying all that BSC and whatever...

All those interviews, job recruitment seminars, selection trials, recruitment beach parties, job application presentations..
All of them consists of 70% lying and 30% twisting the truth.. The only things you don't lie about are your name and IC no. Serious.

Evidently the threadstarter lacks social skills. Now I wonder what he does in clubs and did he get to exercise his social skills in there or just to boast and do all that useless guy talk. I for one avoid those waste money places like a plague. Anyways, the interviewer already hinted at the kind of personality he has to take to fit into the org and he stil didn't get it... maybe another year of unemployment and let him get hungry enough... then he might get the message... And he also never take note of the dressing and investigate the kind of company he is going into..
No EQ. No sales. No understanding of customer. No job.
Seriously I've been an interviewer over 20 times. Interviewed locals, UK, US, India and Aus. There are still many people who don't get it. The number one hate of an interviewer is for the interviewed to not answer a question directly or to blabber on and on. Anyways. I sense the threadstarter posted this with the intention to blame interviewers and job search process. So better not talk too much. Besides, I get nothing out of dishing good advice here in this site. -

He deserves 3 more years of unemployment for that. Many people who cannot get jobs because of their own actions. However, these same people also blame the company or the interviewers. -

1) Your qualifications not so acceptable by the bank? (I don't know hor..just saying)
2) Your interview sucks?
3) Who the hell will say ur hobbies are clubbing and playing piano? Say something like reading novels when you are free, playing tennis or jogging to clear you mind...etc
4) You have been out of job too long?
Try:
- Working from a contract position?
- Try other sectors while trying to apply in the bank?
- Re-format ur resume or review how u answer questions during the interview (since you have been to so many...u shld realise something is wrong?)
Maybe that will help you better? -
Have you been asked such question: "How have you been spending your time since your graduation a year ago?"
What could be your answer?
If you stare blankly at such question, you could be overwhelmed by the next cohort of graduates! -

For a start, please don't slouch. Sit up and stand up straight. Your posture tells alot about you. -
