the interviewer always got this qn in mind: what makes you think i should hire you when all candidates are equal?
the expected ans are:
1. I can generate $X sales for the company in x mths by bla bla bla
2. I can save $X for the company in x mths through bla bla bla
if they never ask, initate. -
i actually believe that interview is about the impression of the interview on the candidate and nothing else.
it has hardly anything to do with performance.
afterall what can you know about a candidate from a 15-30 minute interview? -

Yes i agree its stupid for him to tell the interviewer his favorite hobby is clubbing, but some of you sounds pretty proud in your reply posts. Everyone makes mistakes, don't they? Besides from his post, his prob a honest chap that lack interview skills
I would rather have someone like him as a colleague than a glib and crafty person that might stab me in the back one day to get me out of the job

Problem is that there is a mismatch in the expectation of the potential employees and employers.
The employees may be willing to work at a lower pay and work longer hours to secure a job. But on the other hand, a bank needs professionals with experiences to get the profits. In addition, they might not be willing to hire a new guy who would required precious manpower and time to train. They would rather go to hunt for overseas foreign talents, and hired them on contact basis. If their performance no good, or when the external demands weaken, they could be easily taken care of. -

He deserves 3 more years of unemployment for that. Many people who cannot get jobs because of their own actions. However, these same people also blame the company or the interviewers. -
An example of look-good presentations and justification to gross over existing shortcomings or problems instead of solving them:-
Unemployments : Ans: Nothing can be done, problem is caused by external conditions or rising China or India and People must go for retraining
Unemployments (When world economy recovers:-
Ans: People must go for retraining.
Unemployments after retraining:-
Ans: Retrained workers must not be too demanding and new graduates cannot find job for one year have not learned the interview presentation.
Real leadership talents paid the highest salaries in the world surely do not need any excuses and denials. Surely they will come up with good solutions. -

Seriously I've been an interviewer over 20 times. Interviewed locals, UK, US, India and Aus. There are still many people who don't get it. The number one hate of an interviewer is for the interviewed to not answer a question directly or to blabber on and on. Anyways. I sense the threadstarter posted this with the intention to blame interviewers and job search process. So better not talk too much. Besides, I get nothing out of dishing good advice here in this site.
Since you're so zai, then hope you can give good advice to everyone here who are looking for jobs, and present it such that it people will be receptive to it. You write until liddat ppl read already also dulan. Then dun blame ppl when you get flamed instead for trying to "help". No offence.
Sorry I abit guai lan here also, coz i'm graduating in < 1 yr's time, so i can understand his feelings. -

Always can't get past interviews.
My qualifications..bsc econs n mgmt...the kind of jobs i've been applying for are bank jobs. I've been for about 15 interviews at almost every bank since i grad...and after every interview i walk away thinking i did well and answered well...why in the end still didnt get picked for the 2nd round.
another thing that troubles me is....when they ask me to describe my hobbies i say Clubbing n playing piano....then they will say im too sociable for the job or too artistic.
So what the FCUK must i say at interviews to get thru 2nd round???
becos a missing of zero will render serious embarassment to the banking sector
i do club , but i never will put clubbing on my resume

they wanted a mature personality
maybe u can try checking with Civil service job like MAS or IRAS
hmmm Bsc , that is a more scientific approach than the usual
BA(hons) econs , maybe u should try selling your point to the interviewer your
accument on current market trend and boast abt watever company u are going for interview
