What is so surprising? After all, how much are we paying our maids to work 7 days a week? Singaporeans say it is a contract...you don't like it, you can leave the job. So why should Singaporeans complain about $300 a month to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week when our maids work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for less than $300 a month? At least these uncles and aunties can go out when they like it, watch TV when they want and make friends with whoever they like. The maids are kept as virtual prisoners in the house and not allowed to mix with their friends in case 'they learn bad things'....
Singaporeans are hypocrites and deserve to lose their jobs to foreign workers.. -

In fact i respect what the old ladies/uncles do wiping our a s ses in the toilets.
I'm just stating the obvious: due recognition and pay is not afforded to these people and thus they are abused and mistreated. They should be given at least a decent salary to match their long hours and compensation for their hard and unglamourous work.
Yes make no mistake, it is an UNGLAMOUROUS job, else plenty of Singaporeans will be pouring foward to fill the vacancies.
Which is why i can only deduce that the next step for such companies will be to phase out local employment in this area and pursue foreign workers.
