Singapore ISP pricing itself out of the market

Fewer than half the households in Singapore are on broadband, even though the Republic was one of the first countries in the world that was wired up nationwide for high-speed Internet services.
The figure is lower than the 66 per cent in Hong Kong, where a 10Mbps service costs HK$148 (S$32) a month. A 10Mbps service costs $88 in Singapore. (Straits Times 3 Nov)
If the government will allow foreign ISPs to come in, will our charges be lowered? Are we practising protectionism to keep our prices inflated? -
Aiya! It's the same crap year in year out (also ear in ear out), just talk only. But when doing, comes out different.

Not just the high prices. The recent crackdown on downloading and sharing of music and movies has also made it even harder to justify spending money on broadband. What use is broadband if you cannot download stuff? Maybe for playing online multiplayer games, but how many people do that?

The crux is, you all have to respect other people's IP rights. Be it a webmaster's, or an artist's.
Doesn't mean that there is no fence put up around a house, you can merrily go in and burglarize it.
Simply because it is easy to do so. -
At S$39/mth for unlimited 0.512Mbps and S$32/mth for 10Mbps,
Out of 10Mbps, our Sg ISP is actually making 20 x $39 = S$780/mth!
Can I franchise from HK and launch a 10Mbps service for say $50/mth here?
Why cannot when Sg consumers stand to benefit the MOST? Because...blah blah blah.
So much for our pro-entrepreneurial, pro-business environment and Fair Competition Act.

Actually I do agree with you, and I still buy CDs. I'm just saying that most people do not actually need broadband connections, and will likely not suscribe until dialup is gone or prices come down for broadband. Many people I know actually cancelled their broadband suscriptions after the crackdown on bittorrent sites, since they will not be downloading massive amounts of data anymore. Broadband service is just too costly in Singapore. More foreign competition will help.

Aiyah, as we already know, the Singapore government & the GLCs like to kek a high standard of living for the others to see mah. Want to show off. Everything must be at very high prices (The common people are then left to fend for themselves & slogging for the rest of the lives trying to keep up with the high prices), then the government will be extremely proud if Singapore is ranked has the highest standard of living in the world.
Singapore government & the GLCs are like that one, it is like a common sports car trying to compete in a Formula 1 race. The driver is the government & GLCs, while the common people is the engine. The government & GLCs trying to perform stunts is it, trying to damage the engine then they happy.
