yeah manOriginally posted by av98m:Not just the high prices. The recent crackdown on downloading and sharing of music and movies has also made it even harder to justify spending money on broadband. What use is broadband if you cannot download stuff? Maybe for playing online multiplayer games, but how many people do that?
If you are a webmaster, and you know that composers are surfing for materials and ideas from your website for free , how do you feel ?Originally posted by ShutterBug:Err.. ey!
If you were a professional musician, and you hear that people are downloading your latest album which you took sweat and tears to compose for free, how would you feel??
Happy??? Or cheated???
you cant compare like that lah. the more you buy, the cheaper it is... if you have to compare, compare with packages of equal speed.Originally posted by macjoe:At S$39/mth for unlimited 0.512Mbps and S$32/mth for 10Mbps,
Out of 10Mbps, our Sg ISP is actually making 20 x $39 = S$780/mth!
Can I franchise from HK and launch a 10Mbps service for say $50/mth here?
Why cannot when Sg consumers stand to benefit the MOST? Because...blah blah blah.
So much for our pro-entrepreneurial, pro-business environment and Fair Competition Act.
Actually I do agree with you, and I still buy CDs. I'm just saying that most people do not actually need broadband connections, and will likely not suscribe until dialup is gone or prices come down for broadband. Many people I know actually cancelled their broadband suscriptions after the crackdown on bittorrent sites, since they will not be downloading massive amounts of data anymore. They will suscribe again if prices drop to a reasonable level.Originally posted by ShutterBug:Err.. ey!

Yeah...That right. Typical sngapore. wayang and wayang is the way sg gov doing.Originally posted by Spirit of Fire:Aiyah, as we already know, the Singapore government & the GLCs like to kek a high standard of living for the others to see mah. Want to show off. Everything must be at very high prices (The common people are then left to fend for themselves & slogging for the rest of the lives trying to keep up with the high prices), then the government will be extremely proud if Singapore is ranked has the highest standard of living in the world.
Singapore government & the GLCs are like that one, it is like a common sports car trying to compete in a Formula 1 race. The driver is the government & GLCs, while the common people is the engine. The government & GLCs trying to perform stunts is it, trying to damage the engine then they happy.
Bloody Hell!!!
Exactly...broadband does not have to be so costly. It is the govt that is making us pay so much and in so doing allow Hong Kong and other competitors get the better of us.Originally posted by Salman:Broadband service is just too costly in Singapore. More foreign competition will help.
Internet services in Japan is even cheaper than singapore.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Exactly...broadband does not have to be so costly. It is the govt that is making us pay so much and in so doing allow Hong Kong and other competitors get the better of us.
Singaporeans must lower our salaries to compete, but they can increase their charges and deny foreign competition.
