Without telling the people back in 1970s, a certain Goh Keng Swee doctrine was implemented quietly which assumed that by pushing up salaries and prices Singapore will forcibly price out the lower grades of industries and upgrade to value-adding higher technology ones. Under that doctrine, it was also assumed that by pushing up HDB flat prices to get people mortgaged to their property for 30 years, Singaporeans will be kept to work harder to sustain Singapore prosperity.Originally posted by Spirit of Fire:Aiyah, as we already know, the Singapore government & the GLCs like to kek a high standard of living for the others to see mah. Want to show off. Everything must be at very high prices (The common people are then left to fend for themselves & slogging for the rest of the lives trying to keep up with the high prices), then the government will be extremely proud if Singapore is ranked has the highest standard of living in the world.
Singapore government & the GLCs are like that one, it is like a common sports car trying to compete in a Formula 1 race. The driver is the government & GLCs, while the common people is the engine. The government & GLCs trying to perform stunts is it, trying to damage the engine then they happy.
Bloody Hell!!!
This is because of our government wants ridiculous super pay checks of their pockets.Originally posted by robertteh:Without telling the people back in 1970s, a certain Goh Keng Swee doctrine was implemented quietly which assumed that by pushing up salaries and prices Singapore will forcibly price out the lower grades of industries and upgrade to value-adding higher technology ones. This doctrine has probably backfired causing high costs without corresponding upgrading of jobs or industries. The high cost part of the doctrine was probably auto-piloted without anyone checking it or making correction thereby causing untold problems. It is too big a policy to be easily checked by anyone.
The result today is Singapore has lost all the economic competitiveness in the domestic sector of the economy granted that foreign investments and GLCs might still do well because they can charge high fees like SPH and SBS and recover all costs under one power of monopoly or another.

Strange that we pay our ministers more salaries but and get only 3% growth whereas China pay their ministers less than our ministers and yet get 9% growth.Originally posted by Cindyfeh:I think S$800k is not enough. They should be paid more for the job well done!
Look at China, their ministers are paid pathetic pay and see how their economy is growing out of control at 9% per annum and over heating.
If they are being paid singapore ministers level of pay, I am sure China will be growing at a managerable 3% per annum.

My mom gave birth to me, to think that when old, i can give her money.
now due to singaproe cost of living so high, i cant even afford to pay for her medical bills which is now shared among her 5 daughters including me..not to talk about her allowances.
Now i have only two kids, to think that when old again ...i might have some money from them....Do you think it is possible???? I wonder what is the cost of living in Singapore during their generation....and how to depend on them to support me when i am old??? So buy insurance now??? Saving ???
My mom brought 4 room flat at $40K plus, I brought at $100K plus...my kids will buy at $ ???????? cant imagine???
Is this very stress??? i pity my kids next time.....![]()
there are more things to consider than just plain economic growth, look at the rest of China? Grwoing in a disorderly fashion can have very disastrous consequences. Our government has provided the infrastructure for the long term. Singaporeans never appreciate all the good that the government has done for Singapore. Trust me, they have done a good job, living away from Singapore for a while now has shown me certain things. I used to be very against the government, now I appreciate what they are trying to do. It's all about the big picture.Originally posted by robertteh:Strange that we pay our ministers more salaries but and get only 3% growth whereas China pay their ministers less than our ministers and yet get 9% growth.

How about trying to solve some of the persistent problems like high costs and double taxing as posted at PGPB thread without contending with hypocrisy and denials and continuing look-good justifications of past unworkable policies.Originally posted by breytonhartge:there are more things to consider than just plain economic growth, look at the rest of China?
