All I know is that the area of this GRC is damn big. Bloody hell the Pay And Pay, purposely made like this. -

Aljunied GRC seems out of reach, now that George Yeo has been appointed Foreign Minister.
With Tony Tan giving up his cabinet positions, there may be some changes in Sembawang GRC. -

I am sure they would like to have another shot at contesting Aljunied after the 2001 fiasco, but it is harder now. Sometimes I question the rationale for appointing certain people to certain positions. Not that I am begrudging them or doubting their abilities.Originally posted by gorby107:]

But I am sure that WP will have their supporters one because of Hougang SMC which share its boundary with Aljunied GRC.

In one of the previous elections, the PAP realised that the opposition could win by marginal votes in one of its GRC. So? A last minute swapped on one of its very heavy-weight minister (Tony Tan, if I remember right) to that GRC.
The opposition was caught off-guard. -
if the opposition can truely capture the zeigeist of the Singaporean society, i do not see a need for them to contest the so called "easy" wards. at the end of the day, regardless of the gerrymandering or political gift packages the PAP comes up with, the people votes.

It is not just gerrymandering or gift pakages but also redrawing boundaries, last minute swapping of candidates, suing candidate who make unsubstantiate remark and strategize to block persona non-grata from going into parliament etc.
It is the strongest,ablest man standing but also a game of strategies. -

Dont forget the the goverment control the election committe that draws the boundaries, just like the president election.... they can draw the boundary anyway they want.Plus they can throw a few more Sg citizenship to PRCs to increase the percentage win -
What a joke...I voted in the British parliamentary elections last year as a citizen of the British Commonwealth but I cannot vote in the Singapore Elections even though I am a citizen.

33% is really incredibly low, given the fact that voting is compulsory in Singapore. Those in parliament, especially Hsien Loong need to ask themselves if they really have the mandate to lead the country.
