The Star (malaysian tabloid) stated that the AEON chair could cost as much as S$2200/-.
Note the modal terms they use in 'could cost' and 'as much as'.
The actual cost online costs US$599/- which works out to abt approx S$1000/- on a 1.67 conversion rate. And you can bet NTU will sniff out the best deal and ask for the best discount. See below for an example of the cost.

They cost much less and have a five-year warranty. As long as you don't do anything stupid like placing a hot iron on the seat or tossing it out of the window, they can last for years. My typist's chair has lasted me for ten years in spite of all of my sitting on it.
So... how? It hardly makes sense for them to justify increasing tuition fees to cover rising operating costs when all this rather unnecessary spending is taking place. -

In Malaysia, you can get a polymer composite stool for RM$10/-
Think of the inventory NTU can get with the budget they are spending on such extravagant chairs. -

frankly speaking, i was pissed by the news. how come they spend this sort of money for the sake of business school??? speak about the welfare of the funds are to contribute to poor students wif financial difficulties. I see no change for NTU when handling the welfare of the school and the overcrowd problems.

When the ministers are earning world class salary, many other top guns with the listed or unlisted companies or institutions also try hard to ape what the big brothers are doing!Why those institutes of higher learning keep telling you that they need to raise fees of 10-20% each year? For name sake they keep telling you that the money is needed for improvement of learning facilities, are those chairs included???If it is not being checked, it will be golden tap later! With those fees increases, they are employing those chinamen type of lecturers who could not even speak some proper English, how could they impact their knowledge across to the undergraduates??????Most undergrads have to struggle on their own as they can't rely much on the lecturers or the so called 'Professors" as they are good to the management and cheap to the universities!By hiring them they may be able to buy more of those thousands dollars chairs!
