It doesnt matter when Hotel New World collapse...the fact is it did and things like that should not have been allowed to happen. 100 years from now, if another building collapse, people will still look back at the Hotel New World and Nicol Highway incidents.
Building a hotel may not be the same as a tunnel along a coast but the principles are the same. Safety considerations, stringent checks, Calculations verified and approved by licensed person, getting the right contractor, the right equipment and the right materials....etc.
I wouldnt say Ng is a scapegoat...he is responsible by law. But by conscience, the Government should take a long hard look at themselves and admit that they could have done better to prevent such an incident.
Blaming the contractors alone is not a long-term solution. The Goverment should lead by example and correct any loopholes in the regulations or policies.
I, personally, do not ask for the Ministry to admit publicly that htey are partly at fault. All I ask is for the assurance that all of us and our future generations will be able to live, work and play in an environment that is safe, -
Truths are difficult to come by. That is the problem. It took NKF ten over years to spill the beans about golden taps and 8 months' bonuses on top of peanut pays.
Citizens here are the ones who will unearth truths for themselves. Even if truths are published, the system is supported by its own management audits and panelists how to get them to appoint truly independent investigators.
Even if truths are published in Hotel New World collapse Inquiry report and deliberated in parliament and cabinet, who is there to implement them. That is why we will keep seeing denial syndrome of one kind or another ad nausem. -
The guidelines for safety are already there. You would know if you had followed the trial closely. But if somebody is not diligent in following those guidelines or wants cover up, its not the guidelines that are faulty.
We can have death penalty for drug offences and I can bet you there are still people taking drugs in Singapore every day. Does that mean the law is not harsh enough for drug offences? -
Notice that Robert Teh avoided the questions I posed to him and repeated his illogics all over again. He is not interested in the truth.
