By that time, they will come out with reasons like yes, Singaporeans are matured enough to have satellite TV blah blah blah. Just like the casino, as long as money can come in, no problem. To hell with the consequences. When satellite TVs are finally allowed, they will then set up a Addiction to Porn Annonymous to help those addicted to porn cope, just like the Gamblers Annonymous for the casino.
Ultimately, the government decides what is right or wrong.

Reasons for disallowing satellite TV in homes still valid: Lee Boon Yang
21 November 2005
SINGAPORE : Singapore has to remain vigilant against terrorism and prevent undesirable content from entering Singapore homes.
Information, Communications and the Arts Minister Dr Lee Boon Yang says this is the reason the government has to disallow satellite television in homes.
He told Parliament the government has reviewed its policy on this over the years and has allowed satellite TV in certain organisations, like banks and some commercial organisations which need time-sensitive information.
More recently, it has also allowed hotels, tertiary and technical institutes, international schools and hospitals to have access to satellite TV for restricted use.
But that is as far as it will go for now. Said Dr Lee, "The reason why we have to prevent the undesirable content from easy entry to the homes of Singaporeans through satellite dishes remains valid and important in the face of increasing security challenges worldwide today. We must remain vigilant against external influences which may seek to split and divide our society."
He added, "The government will continue to review our satellite TV policy and to ensure that our regulations keep pace with technological developments and trends in the entertainment industry." - CNA

True. How so true...
Yep. $$ is one reason but imo, that's just goal no.2.Originally posted by angelfairy:correct me if im wrong, but isnt the reason for $$ since both starhub and mediacorp are owned by the government? just trying to monopolize the market right?
So what?Useless living in your bubble. The market is the best place for ideas to fight it out, if your ideas are strong, you win.If you can't, goodbye.Originally posted by Relm:What i can guess is that the military has some stupid channels. if we were to have these satellite dish at home, anyone will know some military secret. Our country is small. it's just so easy to receive these signals.
another second guess. they want propaganda. on singapore media tv, you will see adverts on the army and stuff. they want young singapore boys to support ns. this, with satellite dishes, the whole propaganda thingy will fail.
don't you find that many of the programmes on singapore media tv are promoting singapore. kinda propaganda.
Insecurity blanketed in nice media spin.Originally posted by Relm:Well. it's a fact that the media is controlled by the government. Have you ever asked yourself why that is so? Adverts and programmes on being loyal to singapore and stuff like that. playing the national anthem at the start of a channel's transmission. why?
if there are satellite dishes, you will be receiving news. real news. these news have personal opinions. that's news of countries like the states where there are lots of press freedom. right here in sigapore, press freedom ranks at 140 in the world. are singaporeans not ready for real news? news which covers both sides? no. i would say singaporeans are ready. the government is just afraid.
