Those funding the construction of the canal will need returns so passage through will cost and it will be back to cost competition.
The project takes huge amt of money and take yrs to construct, don't think any thai government wants to spend the money now for the benefits of the future government. There is no political benefits in to for the thai, economic benefits have to be calculated. Not an easy conclusion.
