Any state burial for Ex-president Devan Nair?

Devan Nair is probably the only President who is very much involved in politics. As a union chief during the turbulant years, he fought for rights and wages for union members. He was even jailed.
Other ex-Presidents were merely ceremonial. They were usually civil servants, ambassadors who sit there by appointment.
Though his alcoholism brought his down fall, he's still someone who had contributed much to the building of S'pore. He certainly deserve a State Burial.

Yes let us as a nation move on. Theres no need to harp on this issue. Even former president Ong was not afforded a state funeral. Our leaders know what is best for us.

Fortunately this is a naive and stupid assumption. When Singaporean so happen to agree with some of the things the government is doing, do not assume that Singaporeans are leaving the thinking and the judging to the government.
Don't know what your involvement in grassroot movement entails, but tell yr grassroot leaders and yr MP not to do too much assumption or they will be in for big surprises at a later date. -
for what he has done for singapore even if he is guilty of being a drunk (not that i believe) he deserves a state burial.
even if it is not accorded the least our govt should do is to go send him off. -
Mr Nair will be buried late tonight in hamilton, canada.
his remains will be brought home at a convenient date for re-burial as that was his wish, said his son. -

It is ironic that politics among men, have caused greater man to be buried outside state burial ground and those who are honoured are not as great as those buried outside.
There must be many many unsung heros who are not revealed to the public because of men's politics who fought for the country long and hard without rewards. These unsung heros would truly deserve the honour as many a time they have endured great hardship due to politics and at great costs to themselves and their famlies. These people deserve even higher honour in the hearts of the people.
