well vito, I think there are two sides to this, suppose you're an aussie born middle eastern chappie, Oz is the only country that you've known all your life, but everytime you go down to the beach, people shout at you "wogs go home" ... how would you feel ? ... and so a violent middle eastern gang comes along and takes you under their wings, being with them shields you from comments like this because people are imidated, would you join them ? ...Originally posted by vito_corleone:useless immigrants should be deported to where they came from. you come to a country you abide and live by the rules and customs, you dont demand all sorts of shite and whine when you dont get jobs cause you're a free-loading lazy bastard who doesnt work hard and leeches government welfare hand-outs.
I wouldn't say that Singapore's racial problem is under control ... it's only buried under the surface, ... for now ... stereotyping still goes on among many parents of every race ... and the next generation get passed on these skewered views ... and we need not look further past our (neighbourhood) schools, primary schools, or secondary schools, ... do kids cluster into racially divided groups, or do they formed mixed ones ... put your hands over your heart and answer ...Originally posted by ShutterBug:I think Singapore's racial problem is under control due to the size of our country. But the fact that us humans are involved, if it isn't racial, it would be something else to hoohaa about..
endless...
have you realised that racism is something hard to eradicate, and at most, we can only de-fang it.It's been tried for centuries and those who advocate cultural equality have often been drowned out by the noisy cacophony of simple-minded folk who prefer to see the world in skin colors and issues in black and white.Originally posted by Fatum:I wouldn't say that Singapore's racial problem is under control ... it's only buried under the surface, ... for now ... stereotyping still goes on among many parents of every race ... and the next generation get passed on these skewered views ... and we need not look further past our (neighbourhood) schools, primary schools, or secondary schools, ... do kids cluster into racially divided groups, or do they formed mixed ones ... put your hands over your heart and answer ...
I've dated girls of other races before ... and I've experience first hand the kind of emotions the other party's parents can show when they hear that their daughter is dating some chinese boy ... (my parents don't really care, as long as the person i'm dating is a female human being ... ), but the most fundamental problem, one that i feel is only recently being addressed by the blogger case, is that no one really bothered about political correctness and racial sensitivity at all before this, whatever race you are, I'm sure you'd have heard of people, friends of your own race disparaging people of other races before ... the one failure of our current system is the failure to come out early on and say, no ! this is wrong ! ... no one told them it is wrong to stereotype people, no one said to them no, it's not right, and until these blogger chappies posted out all these views for all to see, we all pretended it doesn't exist ... why is it that after 40 years of nationhood, epithets like munjens, mats, cheenas, babi and klings still get flinged around by us at each other, even if it's behind each other's back now ? .... because no one really told us it's wrong, even if it's behind each other's backs ...
and as long as we don't directly address this problem ... we're deepening the fault-lines with each generation, and just covering it up with a layer of sand ...

aus is much cheaper than the us...the average US degree might cost anywhere between SGD30k to 100k a year minus food and lodging and depending on whether its a private university or state university. an average australian degree, if i'm not wrong, costs only around SGD20k a year plus lodging.Originally posted by anonymouscoward:I don't know about you guys but I've been telling everyone that I will not visit Oz for a very long time. 'White supremacists' involved in Sydney race riots
New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma says violence over the weekend in Sydney's south was the ugly face of racism, with the State Government confirming that so-called "white supremacists" were involved in the riots.
A police task force has been set up to identify people who took part in the riots with police today defending their actions in containing the 5,000-strong crowd, saying they did everything they could.
Mr Iemma says community leaders will meet with police and the Government to decide what further action to take, again condemning the behaviour in the strongest terms.
"There is no way that this sort of behaviour, this disgraceful and cowardly behaviour will be tolerated anywhere," he said.
Police Commissioner Ken Moroney denied that police should have dispersed the crowd earlier but admitted the consumption of alcohol played a large role, describing it the worst violence he has seen in 40 years in the force.
"Never in my working life did I ever imagine a mob, a drunken mob, turning on a woman," he said.
There are reports that text messages are being sent out already calling on similar action to take place next Sunday, with the Premier saying they will be met with unrelenting force.
Opposition criticism
NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam has accused the Police Commissioner and the Government of failing in its approach to yesterday's violence, saying Parliament should be recalled to strengthen police powers.
Mr Debnam says the Labor Government has a softly, softly approach to gang violence, which he claims has gripped the city.
He says police and the Government failed to contain the behaviour and prevent it from happening again last night.
"What you saw at Cronulla yesterday was simply the community frustration coming to the boil and then that was manipulated by thugs within the crowd," he said.
"And what we also saw was inadequate police resources again for a crowd of 5,000 people who could've at any time turned violent and that happened."
But Commissioner Moroney says police have adequate powers and has reacted with anger to Mr Debnam's comments.
"My first reaction is to find the proposition totally offensive. Absolutely totally offensive and a complete anathema to what I stand for as a police officer of 40 years in this state," he said.
"It is a complete anathema to what I stand for as the Commissioner of police."
yes bro, I do suppose that racism is something that we can never completely do away with, but it doesn't mean that we need not do anything about it right now, it is precisely this "it will always be there" attitude that lead to incidents like those racist bloggers (and the situation that i've described in my post), frankly, i don't think the status quo is "okay". Call me naive if you may ... but I certainly think we can do better at this ...Originally posted by LazerLordz:have you realised that racism is something hard to eradicate, and at most, we can only de-fang it.It's been tried for centuries and those who advocate cultural equality have often been drowned out by the noisy cacophony of simple-minded folk who prefer to see the world in skin colors and issues in black and white.
evolution does not happen equally to everyone, that's why racists still exist.

Even if Oz is hypocritical - at least from the way u put it - It doesn't make anything it says less true if they are true in the first place, just like its comments on our use of the mandatory Death Penalty.Originally posted by Typhoon:This is the nation that presumes to tell us how to make our laws.
