Is Japan a thorn in Asia's development/corporation?

they are the one with the most vested interest. -
I still maintain that Japan bashing is a convinent sport that lots of asian goverments orchestrate for their people as part of their domestic politics ...
We harp on WWII and the Japanese invasion because our govt wants to remind us of our vulnerabilities, successive generations of korean politicians uses connection to the japanese colonial goverment as a convinent smear to bring down rivals (how ironic, that while there's no love lost between the two peoples, lots of the current corp of politicians has fore-fathers who were mandarins and administrators in the japanese colonial govt !) .... as for the Chinese, well, the best way to deflect discontent at home, is, of course, to direct it else where .... nuff said ...
did our national education and history program succeed so well, to make you feel this way ? ... or are you very close to your grand parents ? ...
WWII is more than half a century ago ... most of the participants are already dead, besides, the japan of today can never post a threat like it used to, because of the present day geo-political realities of east asia .... -

I feel, Japan had not paid for what it did in WW2 til this day.
Spore Government kept quiet, becos Japan had "Paid" us
(and we are only a tiny dot on the map without much say).
But not China and Korea, which are the 2 growing major powerhouse in asia. -
Pls la, there are valid reasons why china and korea
react the ways they do.
Sporeans are just too self-centred to be concerned abt

and further more, I do know the lessons of that generation, my grand uncle disappeared during the sook ching ops, but i do think it's sad to use lenses of the past to see the world today, and which generation are you ? ... were you present during the japanese occupation ? i can only say it smacks of insecurity and self confidence ... as for the history bit ... to say that Japan has not "paid" the other two nation, is to have only a very loop sided view of history, perhaps you'd like to read up on sino-japanese relations from the 60s to the early 80s ... they definitely weren't what they were today ...

There is a false analogy in your "very simple argument" between human lineage and the succession of government. A child does not have to pay for his father's crimes because they are independent human beings who are responsible for their own actions. A government, however, is an extension and continuation of its predecessor in many respects and thus has to assume responsibilities for what happened in previous administrations. This is why the German government still expresses remorse for what happened in Hitler's times. This is why in any historical account about a government, there is normally a chronological account of it previous administrations. However, an autobiography of a human being stops when the person dies. You do not go on and include the life of his children.
