i think if its a donation thing, it has 2 b willing. i recalled another incident during my reservist whereby they set up 2 queues 2 collect the saf booklet when we finished our last day of ict. 1 u must donate $ & the other no need. of cos u know which 1 is faster. & 2 all the ang mo worshippers, u r worse than the left over sai still stuck 2 my a s s hole.

I'm not too sure whether it's due to self-censorship of the person contributing the article or the censorship done by the press. However, the key of this issue is not just whether soliders are "coerced" to donate blood. There are 2 related issues the government failed to respond:
1) How can gays be totally honest about their sexual orientation when they are donating blood? Is donation totally anonymous? I'm sure many gays did not out themselves during NS. Either because they are still unsure whether they are in fact gays (internal struggles to find personal sexual identity) or because they are fearful of the social stigmitisation and discrimination that follows. Would they have the courage to "out" themselves when they were asked to fill in the questionnaire?
2) Is punishment necessary for these people? I mean, they are contracted with a disease that has no cure. Yes, we can blame them for their foolishness, but then, they are given the death penalty at the moment when they know they are HIV+. Why bother keeping them behind bars and take away all other supports?
Related to my other post on AIDS/gay relationship. I think the best way to stp the spread of this disease is to get rid of the social stigmitisation associated with it. There's no point just asking people to practice safer sex and give no other alternatives to them. This will lead sexual practices to hit underground and lead to more problems further down the road.
