Why Oppostion should contest in Strongholds

Veteran MP's such as MM Lee Kuan Yew and SM Goh Chok Tong has lots of
experience in debates and gathering support in their constituencies. While
winning votes in these respective constituencies is nearly impossible, the
Opposition can actually learn valuable experience from these veterans. Afterall,
our MM was some of the leading political leaders in the turbulent years after the
World War II and had dealed with many elections; fought major battles and won
them. One could learn a lot from them while they lived(Afterall man only lives like
100 years at most). As the Chinese saying goes "The older the ginger and
spicier".

not true, there have been the occasion nut who contested against these old ginger but the old birds never really did bother to actively campaign knowing that they will never lose...

You don't need to go their ward to learn from them. They will come to those wards that are contesting, especially those which are viewed as "danger" zones to contest on behalf of those PAP candidates involved.

perhaps the opp should play bait-and-catch. See if u can turn SMCs into "danger zones", then seize 2 or 3 major GRCs. That might be a good strat...

There was a rumour that back in the 90s, Nee Soon was pretty much 50-50 and judging from the count, it was closer than expected for the PAP, a dangerous zone so to speak.
After which, they carved out Nee Soon into Sembawang, AMK and split the remainder into East and west.
Damn...i was sucked into AMK...no chance to vote for another 20 odd years.

Opposition is united as far as I see. Else, it would be hard for them to sit down together to discuss strategies

Suggestion to Opposition. The old strategies of allowing the PAP to come into power on nomination day had proved unworkable for decades. This old strategy is only worth when we have many older voters then.
For once, why not try to contest on all wards. Just make sure there is no 3 corners fight. Now there are many younger 3rd generation voters who are more educated and dying to vote against the ruling parties. We can then see the change in demograhics too. It may surprise you as how much have changed.
Use the results to plan your new strategies for future GE rather than to stick to such old and proven unsuccessful approach. Who knows, maybe the opposition can capture 1 GRC and that could knock them off their comfort zone.

Even if some brave opposition decides to contest in AMK or Marine Parade, there are still many uncles and aunties residents who are disillusioned that doing well with their little CPF and "high value" 99 yrs leased flats.
