The real issues being debated by people are:
(1) NKF's past misdeeds are all known to the ministers e.g. its claims how long the reserve would last, CEO's excessive pay packages, low per dollar donation contribution ot patient's subsidy, ineptness of its board of directors etc, extravagant spending on mercedes and flying first-class using public donation monies ...
(2) Minister appears to have supported NKF's policies or practices...in rhe past.
(3) Lack of transparency and accountability and use of creative accounting to mull over reserve and patient's subsidies.
No matter how wrong NKF is, such issues appear to affect the ministers and the whole government as well. If the curent debates are to result in fruitful changes, the ministers will be the ones to change.
If not the whole exercise will be another justification to mull over existing poblems wasting public monies again...like what the NKF Report has hinted: MOH regulatory authority missing past opportunities in making necessary change. -

I'm born in the 80s.. so i did not have a chance to see how singapore was like before.
But Senior Lee definitely had put in a lot of effort and hard work to bring Singapore to what we are now. Why don't you think if we are still under the wings of Malaysia.. what would we become? Dreadful isn't it...

I myself used to be a card carrying PAP supporter telling others about Singapore incorruptible officials.The NKF incident revealed that what looks lofty and great on the outside may be bad inside. There is no certainty.
Let me tell you a story. When i was talking to a chinese national, he was so nationalistic and anti Japanese which led me to conclude he was brainwashed by communists complete control of education and media. There is no reason why a younger generation will hate Japanese unless the media and education continues to propagate it. I tried to hint to him that he was brought up in this propaganda enviroment and he admits that his upbringing did affect him,but he rebuted me that i was the same - partly brainwashed by Singapore ideology. He sawed something in me that i couldnt see in myself.
History is about intepretation - Usually there are many interpretations. But history is also conveniently used to serve and intrepreted in favour of those in power and control of media and education.
Is it true that if there is no LKY there is no Singapore? The libraries are open and anyone who has curosity can investigate for him/herself -

If you have watched the History of Singapore in Discovery Channel, you would have realised that LKY was the one that wants Singapore to join Malaysia. For goodness sake! History is past.
What Lee have done in the past was one version of Singapore that is good.
No one will know that if Singapore was make by another leader, it could be better.
So, it is not conclusive that Lee MAKE singapore.
As for NKF, it woke Singapore up.
NKF vs Singapore Inc.
Both hold huge reserves.
Both have donations every month - Donation vs CPF.
No transparency in both the accounting.
Ruled on 1 guy - Board of Director -> Decoy.
The ruler are MAJOR shareholders in companies associated to.
Every one assume that it is well-run.
Both have high class office building.
Both fly 1st Class SIA.
So, the signs are clear. -

No, I don't want Singapore to be like the Maldives....if the price for prosperity is keeping the LKY family on, then I (and most Singaporeans) will pay it. However, I am not convinced that only his family can bring Singapore to where we are today. Well after going thru the replies to this thread, it is difficult for the government to please everyone. To those who benefitted, continue staying on. To those who think they are losing out, MIGRATE, find alternatives, its a free economy/world. Get the necessary credentials & points to move.

The problem I see and fear IS migration. Many of those who have the credentials are people we should keep. If all capable Singaporean's were to leave, then what do we have left?
I'm sure they have their reasons for wanting to go, but we should find out why before it's too late. Blasting them will do no good, as they'll just smile at you and say bye-bye. Worst! Other countries are openly welcoming them in! -
Do you think its an easy job? Do you know they bear a lot of responsibility? What happen if abother NKF incident happen? At least we know that Singapore's economy is in good hands. If you watch/read news, LKY is still very much involve in building up Singapore. He's 80+yrs old but he'll still fly to other country to meet the governers there.
Stop complaining so much when they are doing their best to help us. -
