If things are really fair, it would keep these people. But the thing is that it is not fair. Job appraisals here are either not done properly or just based on opinions. I have a friend who didn't get promoted despite doing well because the boss has bad impression of him. He does not get any complaints from customers nor does he do anything bad.Originally posted by lighthand:I seldom post here, but this remark really got to me.
The problem I see and fear IS migration. Many of those who have the credentials are people we should keep. If all capable Singaporean's were to leave, then what do we have left?
I'm sure they have their reasons for wanting to go, but we should find out why before it's too late. Blasting them will do no good, as they'll just smile at you and say bye-bye. Worst! Other countries are openly welcoming them in!
You mean Goh Chok Tong?.......As u said above,he is only a peanuts in Singapore history, why bother to mention him?Originally posted by anhydrouscoppersulphate:not forgetting our dear mr peanuts

If he did not order his troops to crush his own ppl,who knows, maybe he wont have any guilt in his heart n can really live for 100 yrs old, right or not?Originally posted by sgdiehard:errr...jumping a bit too fast and forgot your history or you actually have no idea what you are talking about.
Deng was born in 1904 and died in 1997, he lived for 93 yrs, even after smoking for most part of his life. He was well and able to tour round China at the age of 90. If you say that he died early, then you must assume that he should live to 100 yrs old.
Deng survived internal power struggle and re-emerged twice to power and finally started opening up China to the world. Today he is well respected by all Chinese in china and outside, and even the most democratic angmoh do not regard him as a dictator.
What talking you??
It is actually very simple to understand one thing: If Harry had wanted to leave behind a political system that will endure, he should have set up an accountable and transparent system of collective leadership evolved around a few chosen leaders of the calibre like Goh Keng Swee, Hon Sui Seng and not the "yes men" or NKF types.Originally posted by drawer:You havent given other parties n other Singapore politicians a chance, what makes u think they will not do better than PAP,or Harry?
And besides,i did not totally condemn what Harry did for the country. He did accomplish some great achievement,e.g. to make Singapore economy runs ahead of the rest Asean nations etc.But the problem is he dont know when to "quit".If he follow Dr Mahathir, after making a remarkable achievement in politics,he retire n let his successor totally control n runs the nation. Then i am sure Harry will be praised for a 100 or 1000 years to come.
But the sad thing is he didnt,he stay on n hide behind the curtain n continue to control or at least influence the new generation, whether coming politicians or commoners. This is something against the "law of Nature".In other word,he is blocking Singapore from turning.

Not very trueOriginally posted by Cindyfeh:No rulers (and their sons) in non-democracy environments had ever governed successfully for over 3 generations.
Since singapore is a non-democratic country, we can be sure that the same rule applies as well. In fact, I think it will not take more than 2 generation here.
hahaOriginally posted by SnowFlag:Not very true
In historical china, each family of rulers change is marked by a dynastic change.
But the 1st ruler of each change is normally more capable than his successors.
