If things are really fair, it would keep these people. But the thing is that it is not fair. Job appraisals here are either not done properly or just based on opinions. It is in the same category as consultant who does not have to answer for implementation. When results are not achieved a consultant can always get away by saying something else like his advice was not followed strictly or whatever.

Deng was born in 1904 and died in 1997, he lived for 93 yrs, even after smoking for most part of his life. He was well and able to tour round China at the age of 90. If you say that he died early, then you must assume that he should live to 100 yrs old.
Deng survived internal power struggle and re-emerged twice to power and finally started opening up China to the world. Today he is well respected by all Chinese in china and outside, and even the most democratic angmoh do not regard him as a dictator.

If he wanted to succeed in the bigger way, he could have built up a team of credible selfless leaders who deliver results and not collect multi-million salaries and bonus still pushing away problems as has happened for past 10 - 20 years.

No rulers (and their sons) in non-democracy environments had ever governed successfully for over 3 generations.
Since singapore is a non-democratic country, we can be sure that the same rule applies as well. In fact, I think it will not take more than 2 generation here.
And when the 2nd generation is up, maybe we will see an event even more exciting than today's NKF? -
