hey i'm glad you brought this up. doesn't really matter where it came from, certainly appreciate saving of trees ... especially the majestic old ones ... hopefully it is not just for show as we don't know how many other trees have been murdered ...Originally posted by PRP:LTA made divertions to Braddel Road to save a tree. Now the govt really thinks about the enviroment & not just about money.
Perhaps it is from the 'directive' of MM LKY who ex[ressed concern of the environment in the interview by the Newsweek recently.
i think initiative is there ... u see lots of people making illegal u turns all the time but yes you're right, it's difficult in general to do anything radically transformational here not because the people have no initiative but because they are not free to exercise those initiatives. there are strict boundaries and OB markers that can only be crossed with dire consequences. more importantly, because of elitism here is practised to its extreme, voices of a few becomes omni potent that simply drowns out those of millions of minnows like us who by force of circumstances are confined to meaningless, inconsequential roles ...Originally posted by Spirit of Fire:This wat I heard from somebody. Imagine on the road, the road represents any task that have to be done, the drivers on the road represent the Singaporeans. When the drivers wanted to make a U-turn, they've to drive until they see the U-turn sign, then they can make a U-turn. If not, they'll drive on forever, until the end of time.
The problem with the system in Singapore, is that the majority of the Singaporeans do not take the initiative to do something. They don't make things happen, they only just wait for things to happen. They've to wait for orders, then they can continue the task. If Singapore want to make it far & big, the people really, must break out of this mould.
When the govt tod RC to be creative in decorating for last National Day.They started to be creative. So when no call from govt, they didn't want to be creative. This is the kind of attitude of PAP members have!Originally posted by Spirit of Fire:This wat I heard from somebody.
