hmm, i agree to a certain extent.Originally posted by the Bear:just like many people hate singaporeans...
those who sully the name of their country, stick out like sore thumbs... and they get seen as indicative of the majority of their countrymen...
there are the boorish people who feel they must yell in conversations
there are the "crows" who come to singapore to "hook men"
there are those who come here to work in vice
there are those...
you get what i mean..
the minority give the rest a bad rep...

some PRCs come to singapore and became black sheeps for all PRCs. But not all PRCs are like those minorities who did hook men in singapore wad...
if we treat the rest as if they also hooked men, then it is not fair for them wad...
wow! that is amazing, but maybe they are not good at speaking english?Originally posted by HENG@:i wouldn't say despise, but i'll tell u what i observe of the PRCs in London.
They see other chinese people, they automatically assume they must also be from China. They will come enthuastically ask u which part of china u come from, and if u're not, they will have this mix of disappointment and distain on their face.
They will persist in speaking in their very 'china'-accented chinese around others even when in a group with others who either don't speak chinese or don't understand their accented chinese. They seem to forget that there is a common language which everyone can speak, and end up sounding rude using a language that only they can understand to the exclusivity of the group.
They also tend to mainly socialise amongst other chinese. Like seriously, if thats the case, whats the point of leaving china to study overseas? lots of chinese for them to socialise with back home. They will almost refuse to mix outside of their PRC clique.
i 100% agree with u!Originally posted by Angelo09:treat ppl the way they derserve.
not where they from.
not good but adequate. and its not like the rest of the people who are part of the group are that good at it either. U'd be amazed to learn that mainland Europeans do not speak english that well either. The point is, its a common language EVERYBODY among the group understands. But they persist in speaking in their accented chinese. Even the hong kongers complain they cannot understand the PRCs.Originally posted by huaqing:wow! that is amazing, but maybe they are not good at speaking english?

because most Hks speak CantoneseOriginally posted by HENG@:Even the hong kongers complain they cannot understand the PRCs.
that is quite true. The hong kongers are similiar to the PRCs in behaviour even now, except that they persist with cantonese while the PRCs persist in beijing qiang chinese.Originally posted by the Bear:i wonder about that bit.. because i saw that behaviour among the HK students when i was in melbourne a decade ago..
they DO NOT mix with other nationalities unless forced to..
they refuse to even attempt to speak english.. when they realised i could understand cantonese, but could not speak it, they spoke to me in cantonese and i replied in english...
the only reason the 2 HK fellas mixed with us was coz their roomie was my friend, a Singaporean.. and if there were other HK people around, we (a motley bunch of 3 singaporeans, 2 australians, 2 malaysians, 1 cook islander and 1 aussie who was brought up in thailand) were promptly abandoned..
i know. the point being that, everyone understands english in the group. not everyone speaks perfect english. so why not use english?Originally posted by huaqing:because most Hks speak Cantonese
maybe their english standard sucks and they know it, so being shy?Originally posted by HENG@:i know. the point being that, everyone understands english in the group. not everyone speaks perfect english. so why not use english?

since when did i treat u like an idiot? haha, i typed 1997 wrongly so it became 1991 instead...Originally posted by HENG@:see. u're treating me as though im some village idiot who doesn't know anything about china or hong kong.
of course i KNOW about all of that. and you are wrong. HK was returned to China in 1997, not 1991.
Anyways, quite condensending of you. And then u wonder why non-china chinese despise PRCs?
