some of the other forums i go have this policy oso mah....Originally posted by kilua:I noticed this forum has a policy of policing and consolidating of the popular topics whereas other forums do not.

I still don't get it :Originally posted by FireIce:it works both ways
forumites shd also play their part.....
before opening a new topic (thinking u have the latest news in town), do spend some time to look thru the threads and see if there is already a discussion going on....
If forumites do not mind repeating the similar issues again, there isnt a need to stop them from dicussing a second time. Other forums that debate about freewill repeat the same arguments over and over again but sometimes there are fresh perpectives.Originally posted by FireIce:the purpose is to consolidate threads of similiar content together so that forumites can concentrate discussions in one thread instead of having to repeat their opinions or comments all over the place.....
this is also to allow the forums to be neat and tidy.....and easier for mods to moderate threads....
Yes forumites understand the policy of SC and we want to know the rationale behind the policy that seems to stifles discussion. We should not stand behind burecratic rules and merely tell others to accept them. This post was to ask what is the rationale of the policy and discuss on alternatives.Originally posted by greengoblin:For me it is very simple. I do not restrict on what you post about NKF or the govt or whatever. However in return, I expect that all of you abide by the rulings to consolidate stuff in one thread. We do not wish to allow wanton posting to affect responsible posters.
This is the policy of SC and it will stand.

Threads with decent topics have a HIGH tendency to deviate to other discussions unrelated to the thread itself.
The worry is whether this 'disease' will proliferate if the moderators don't streamline similar topics. In biological terms, "diease" actually is a healthy sign of "diversity" and hence the ability to survive in ever changing conditions of its valid existence. That anology applies to ANY human ideology, arguments or opinons as expressed in any fashion, including a forum itself. And if a moderator isn't capable of handling all these "dieases", than isn't that a manifastation of a weak immunity and tolerance to existing differing views and except the diversity of diease ?
Mind you it's not about policing breakaway factions who love to spam differing views but simply to avoid repetitions.No. This is the role of forumite to decide what is a spam or repetitions, not moderator's.
Too much of the same food is never good, so the line must be drawn. Let the mods decide when to draw that line. Of course, like others have candidly pointed out, too much mopping up stifles productive discussion. Again, leave it to the mods to decide. So far the SC forum remains conducive and intellectual.
