So sad another life is lost.Originally posted by dragg:he had 10kg of equipment with him, including a 3kg ladder, when he drowned. it is common to swim with so much weight in such training.
it is in the report and today's straits times.Originally posted by kops21:So sad another life is lost.

It's SOF training. He is from the NDU's counter terrorist unit.Originally posted by kops21:So sad another life is lost.

In the 1983 Grenada operation,a number of US Navy SEAL commandos(supposed to be like fish in water) drowned when their combat loads of over 50kg dragged them down...Originally posted by Salman:Drowning can happen very fast. It may be too sudden for them to do anything since he had so much weight.
maybe he simply fainted and went down without any struggle...Originally posted by dragg:but why was his life vest not even activated?
Because they say it is not realistic....elite commando soldiers do not go around wearing inflatable life vests in the water during operations. The enemy will see you a mile away...Originally posted by dragg:but why was his life vest not even activated?
He's not from SOF.That's all I can say. This issue was discussed a while back, and this is reason why people die, a lack of care in ensuring that proper training equipment is working and a lack of concentration on the trainers part.Originally posted by f50_vapor:was it mentioned he frm SOF?
i was looking at the article and found it weird tat it wasn't mentioned wat unit he wass from.. or i missed it out?
He is from SOF. Confirmed it wif my SOF trainee fren after tat incident. And the reason why the life vest din inflate automatically was bcos the ones used by the divers and SOF are manually inflated.Originally posted by LazerLordz:He's not from SOF.That's all I can say. This issue was discussed a while back, and this is reason why people die, a lack of care in ensuring that proper training equipment is working and a lack of concentration on the trainers part.
Solve these acts of wanton carelessness and safety will improve, not changing BMT into a chalet.
RIP to this fine man, and may those careless instructors pay a heavy price. You are trainers, soldiers and mentors, you have no excuse to be lax on your watch.Take it like the man you signed on to be.
Okay then, thanks for the verification.Originally posted by KKK84:He is from SOF. Confirmed it wif my SOF trainee fren after tat incident. And the reason why the life vest din inflate automatically was bcos the ones used by the divers and SOF are manually inflated.
seems that all 4 trainers were focusing on another trainee who was struggling in the water. It could be during that time that the poor chap drowned.Originally posted by dragg:the picture shows only 5 in the water.
yet 4 trainers did not notice he had drown.
amazing isnt it?
