The biggest financial losses that can happen to any country is not happening from stealing of a few dollars from the drawers but huge plundering of a country monies by legalistically using party-majority votes to push bills through parliaments to pay ministers' millions of salaries and uncapped bonuses under the pretext of eliminating temptation of corruption.
The amounts of such legalistic taking of public monies from majority self-voting of in parliament are in billions over the lifespan of ministers taking into account paying the ministers' another 20-30 years of automatic annuities after two terms. -

Do you think that the Government a.k.a the Ruling Party will go to such lengths - as to bring Durai into the Courts, if Durai had simply backed down, and step down from his long held "eagle's nest" built on top of an "ivory tower" ?
The entire situation went out of control, much like the situation with the dismissal of the late President Nair, who was also caught on a wrong footing and refused to step down gracefully, and was eventually stuck in a similar "dog-eat-dog" saga.

Durai still had his loyal supporters, who still refused to believe that he has done any wrong. Are they hypocrites ?
Similarly, there are plenty of carpet beggars supporting, defending, and refusing to see the damage done to Singapore by the unchecked powers and influence of the "Power of ONE" - One Personality, One Family, One Party.

Why single out NKF in your reply to me? Rising costs of medical care is in all aspects not only kidney patients. NKF is not the only charity organization in Singapore. As far as I understand, Members of Parliament are paid approx $11k a month irregardless whether they are PAP or Opposition....and for every Parliament Sitting they go, ALL MPs get allowance... SIGH.... Please lah... Stop bringing up the NKF Saga all over again to "shoot" PAP lah... Since LHL already made public that he is willing to look into "whistle-blower"'s complaints about any organization that is cheating public money.
Since YOU are always whacking the GLCs, why not try uncovering some good hard concrete evidence of your claims and submit your complaints lah
. If there is really evidence, I would be very excited to see how LHL handles that. -

I have clearly pointed out that it was the government's own policy in refusing welfare and medicare assistance to the sick and handicapped, coupled to the fact of government's push for high wage costs to the government services that have inflated the medicare costs in the first place. As such it has become poltically expediency for the GCT government to head off a certain crisis by lending support albeit a passive one to NKF's charity drive as a way to moderate the over-inflated medicare costs.
The government might have done the same to Ren Ci's charity drive too lately but it was NKF but not Ren Ci which has got into problems with donors because of certain extravagant spending of donors' charity monies for golden taps and other excessive misuse as disclosed in the SPH/NKF lawsuit that got NKF into problems with the donors and the public at large.
So isn't it quite clear that the government has a hand in pushing NKF's charity drive. As for NKF and Durai's excessive spending of donors' monies for golden taps the government might not be a party to such spending but the MOH as regulatory authority should be held accountable for checking of any such misuse. -

Had the Ruling Party - that form the Singapore Government over the last Forty years - taken a larger responsibility towards looking after infirmed, sick, and aged, and not left it to the charity and responsibility of hard pressed Singaporeans - then opportunities for such scandals need not occur. -

Do you not realise that through 'direct' and 'indirect' taxes, we are almost as near to the tax rates paid by UK Citizens, and what have we in return for the high taxes paid ?
How much of our monthly income is ever left to be saved ?
With the reported BILLIONS Dollar profits being reported by GLCs - through the use of Singaporean Tax Payer's money, will it not be morally correct to have a percentage from the GLC Billion Dollar Profit being paid to the various agencies looking after the Aged, Infirmed, and the Sick ?
Why only look at our own pockets that are tattered and torn after being ravaged by the Government ?
Try looking at the deeper pockets of the Government Linked Companies.
Try looking at the vast sums paid to all in the Ruling Party that run the Government - with the vast sums exceeding the amount needed to live a very comfortable Singapore Standard of Living - (which is the envy of our neighbors).
Compare the amount paid to those in the Ruling Party that run the Government, to the miserly amount paid to look after the Aged, the Sick and the Infirmed ? -
ya lo, we pay them high high salary and we have to struggle struggle paying school fees, medical fees, expensive household equipment due to the high rental fee of shops, and anythng else?? no wonder many ppl buy car to go jb import cheaper necessity back home.
But lucky some food stallers still serve $2 noodles/chicken rice. But you live nearby good for you. If you have a car, nice for you. If you only got 2 kahs(aka legs) den you have to pay some transport companies(which raises its fares during high-operation-cost times and nvr reduce back as the high-operation times remain high and can only get higher), juz to reach the 2$ stalls. -
So, an expensive country will surely create a morally decadent society since the young will be materialistic enough to do whatever possible to get their hands on the ipod-video, the ???? brand handbag...Take japan as eg. There are some japanese video showing teens doing adult things on a train, shops etc. Some signs are showing up in Sg now(sex for sale)
