Lee Kuan Yew to step down next General Election?

I bet MM Lee will step down at the next General Election!!! Anyway he's 82 and its time he sits back and watch the birds go by from his Istana window....I personally do not think he's really in touch with the aspirations of the younger generation.. MM Lee should remember that this is NOT 1965 anymore and as a younger generation Singaporean, i don't necessarily agree with his ancient views. Anyway's he's achived his last few objectives in life!! His son Lee Hsien Long is the PM and continues to be the Minister of Finance, his daugther in law runs Temasek and the younger son runs Singtel...All in the family!!!..As a father i'm sure he is very proud of his childrens 'achivements' while we Singaporeans work our butts off....!!!!! Plus we'll save on the $million paid to our millionaire 'Minister Mentor' (whatever MM means) yearly....!!!!! what do you guys think??

As your last line says......why should be re-retire and stop being paid so much for a retirement job which was created just for that purpose. Even a idiot will not do that, so don't expect this brilliant man to do that.

he has contribute much and deserve a good rest. And now in semi retirement phase. He will just need to spend his time giving speeches and talks. And only really step in on those issues which have not been previously settled in his time. So call unfinish business. SIA and unions problem is one of them.
i think he should also spend more time with the people, older and younger generations of singapore. The majority still have respect for this guy. -

Yes, people still respect him, like I mentioned in another post..if we have so many highly capable people who need to be so highy paid, is is not a financial burden to have a MM & SM around doing what you mentioned..we need to be efficent to be successful, does it not apply across the board...or just to masses like us.. -
No, it is not a financial burden for Singapore. They don't cost very much.

LKY retire?! i tot he said he would rise from his grave if anything happen to Singapore?! i do hope such a day comes though. It would mean a true changeover to the next generation of leaders.

This is the fate of Singapore our leaders are leading people into. A new generation of leaders who know business and competitions will have to be found to re-ignite the lost spirit of Nanyang. -
It is impossible to determine when our 'father' intends to give up the reins of government.
Ever since he ushered in a new generation of leaders in GCT and Tony Tan, it was expected that he would retire himself out of politics, given the 'safe pair' of hands that GCT offered.
Yet with the 3rd generation of leaders having taken office, he continues to confound critics by remaining in office.
One wonders if he will serve his last few years locked in political debate. -

He can set up his office at any part of Singapore.

Istana Job - 2 million
- A Key to National Reserves
Capital Tower Job - Infinity Billions
- National Reserves
So, would it make any difference if he step down or not ?
