I just wanna tell you guys, the population of china is till growing now, one child policy is just slowing the speed of increasing.
the government seems to know what you have metioned above. they modified the policy in 2004 through new marriage law. now one couple are encouraged to have one child, but not forced. if one wants more than one child, just register in the government and the registration fee is about 2000 US dollar. -

I can tell you, definitely no. enforced abortion is regarded to be very offensive now and it is also against the marraige law. the local government is now changed from the maozhendong's extreme way and become more smart and practical. they know they can get no benefit from forced abortion but bad reputation. Logic will have it that China will still want birth control given the fact that they do not need such a large population to begin with and they do not have enough jobs.
The official figure of 1.3 billion is probably off because many births were never registered due to the one child policy. Had the one child policy been effective, the population wouldn't even have grown all these years.
I heard in on a radio talk show about an American woman who encountered forced abortions in rural China.
Do you know that people movement is highly restricted in rural China not only for foreigners but among Chinese as well? Thats the reality of China. -
hi buddy , have you even been to China? the scene you descibed seems to happen 30 years ago! now everyone can go anywhere as long as they have money. and the population has grown all these years without stop and the grows rate is nearly 4% per year. I have been to China, many times. What I said still applies. I suggest you check it out with Chinese nationals yourself. There are places in China where traveling is restricted. And news don't exactly flow freely in China.
