what do u think will be the future of Taiwan?
Will there be a war between the mainland and Taiwan?
i think if the Kuomintang kick Chen Shui Bian out of the government, everything will be fine.
If Chen shui bian remains there then i think the security of Taiwan cannot be guaranteed.

every politician likes to play the nationalistic card to gain the support of the majority or at least the most politically powerful group of people who are gonna guarentee their arse stays in the seat of power even if they themselves do not share the same sentiments...chen shui bian, ahmendinejad they're all the same...

US wont intervene once war starts, but they will use all methods to prevent China from starting the war. eg: Aircraft Carrier, new policies or urging China on political reform, yuan revaluation.....

CSB is a typical "po huai wang", only gao po huai only, further no concrete done by him etc...
but mainland's stance is not to go to war anyway, this's just a game of politics....
who know's its a secret ploy between taiwan and mainland to sup up more weapons, then when they combine... whaahah....they got more than enough weaponry and arsenal to conquer whole of europe! yippee!

personally I think, the war will never be launched. both sides are rational and can control themselves not to step into the war. for the next presidence election in 2008, if guomingdang wins the election, it will be more sure the war will not take place.

I dont think there'll be war. Though China kind of insist that Taiwan is part of them . If start a war, it'll show the immaturity of China wanting to conquer Taiwan by force.

for long term growth.
Most of china profit-making semicon plants in china
are owned and run by Taiwanese companies.
So a war is impossible. -

The SFPT (1951) states that, Basically, that Taiwan's administrative rights is placed under the US, and that KMT is granted only allowed temporary occupation. This treaty also does not name any claimant to Taiwan. This treaty is also enforced in the backdrop of the Korean War, which Gen, McArthur wants Taiwan to be an " unsinkable Aircraft carrier". Both ROC and PRC did not sign the treaty, because they were not invited for obvious reasons.
In one perspective, doesn't this seemed like a land grab scenario, which contradicts the "Cairo Declaration" of 1943 and The "Potsdam Proclamation of 1945" which all parties are signatory ? while the SFPT is not ?
On another perspective based on the SFPT, it profess technically that USA owns Taiwan. Preprosterous !!!
And based on the SFPT, ROC has only temporary occupation, so how to declare independence. Taiwan and China is technically still under Civil War, so under UN, they cannot declare independence. still Being in civil war means that it is a domestic issue, it also mean that China has legal rights to enforce military means to engage Taiwan.
Don't get my wrong, I do not wish war to occur in the Taiwan Straits. But Things still needs to be clarify. And I hope that China will have a peace reunion with China, because in my opinion China will never allow Taiwan to be independent and become a potential agent to the US to contain it... like Japan is obviously doing now. -

I think it is an act that gives Taiwan the means to defend itself... not sure if there is a gurantee that they will defend taiwan.

I will never see Taiwan as a province of China, and so do many people.Problem is, how do we translate this and let the Chinese know.We do not want a Taiwan that is a pawn either, what would be best would be two prosperous Chinese states, independant and yet in a treaty of friendship.You do not force a state to come back based on your own domestic policy assumption, because to Taiwan it's an external policy decision if they decide to return to China.
Taiwan is already the victor, because in any declaration of independance ,China will be the aggressor.
