the answer is easy. singapore is a traditional ally of taiwan.Originally posted by LazerLordz:They want to keep the status quo.Do you see them clamouring to return to China either?
Taiwan is the only other Chinese majority republic with a representative democracy. It's not something to be sneezed at.
I'm curious about one thing, how do the politicians in China view Singapore?By forgetting that we are a multi-racial nation and thinking we are Chinese by thought and attitudes? If that is so, they can jolly well forget about influencing our attitudes.
Better still, why not reverse it.Originally posted by lovespecter:ask you guys, if Shanghai wants to be independent from China. what do you think?
Politically, taiwanese wants status quo. Economically, taiwanese and mainland chinese are very much together.Originally posted by LazerLordz:They want to keep the status quo.Do you see them clamouring to return to China either?

What IF Hawaii wants to be independent from The US. What do you think ? Not so pleasent, if the situation is reverved ...Ehhh
Then, How about China drafting a Hawaii Relation Act, Then.
Or China placing a Military Base in Cuba ... hoe the sound of that....
If history is any indication, I think I know how the US will likely react.
I do not wish any conflict to arise between Taiwan/China. But in my opinion, even if, China were to give OF to Taiwan Independence. There will not be any peace in the straits. Why the US.... that's why. Look at it this way, look at how the US is playing the global game, the control of shipping choke points, location of Guam, the disregards of UN, the leaning of UN when it suits them and now, with Taiwan free. China is as good as being checked mate.. How to have peace ?
Honestly, with all the missery the US have done to third world countries and asian for the past 50 years, manupilating politic scenes, assassinations, regime changes, CIA death squads, questionable bombings and meddling. I do not wish any US military presence in SEA, who knows what situation they will manufacture. I do not mind another super-power to counter weight them.
Well, I call myself a Singaporean Straits Chinese.Note that my country and her culture comes before my ethnic bloodline, which reflects the mix of my Peranakan and Chinese heritage, which explains how I think, the customs I practice, and the way of life my ancestors have lived, and our global nature, which will explain how my descendants will grow up in..That is who I am.If they can respect who I am, then it will be so much easier to respect them for their own individuality.Originally posted by sgdiehard:Politically, taiwanese wants status quo. Politicians in China view Singaporeans as overseas Chinese from an independent country, just like the ABC in america. Their interest is in how chinese singaporean could succeed, especially in a predominantly chinese society. The fact is that they have actually learned from us. So we influence them, not the other way round. They are not interested in other races in singapore, for there are successful indians, malays, caucasians all over the world.
Most chinese on the streets are interested in how "chinese" are those who call themselves chinese. They meet overseas chinese from all over the world, comparisons are made. It is not the politics, not the nationality they are interested. Why do you call yourself chinese?

It ll be good if Taiwan can remain as it is, having its own characters. I have a few Taiwanese friends who are very friendly to me, I wouldn't like to see them suffer.
i read in the news that USA's backing taiwan...Originally posted by huaqing:why do u think USA will be so kepoh to defend Taiwan?
