No, our powers will be exercised in Singapore...when the offended returns he will be arrested and charged for a crime committed overseas. This is already in place in the UK. I agree with this law...this will prevent Singaporeans from exploting the weak legal system and corruption in third world nations to abuse children.Originally posted by SilverPal:So, singapore will have extraterritorial (however you spell the word) rights in asian countries?
How to find proof? like semen in the child...Originally posted by dragg:what do you think?
And this brings up yet another problem, the trial. Witnesses, evidence, semen stains etc.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:No, our powers will be exercised in Singapore...when the offended returns he will be arrested and charged for a crime committed overseas. I think it is time for a referendum on this kind of legislation.Originally posted by dragg:what do you think?
You're right, but I don't think our leeders are enlightened enough to know how to conduct a referendum. They most probably would do it like the way they informed us of the gambling dens... Make a decision before telling us about it, and then assuming that we're too stupid to understand the reason why.Originally posted by iveco:I think it is time for a referendum on this kind of legislation.
In fact, ALL legislative issues OUGHT to be decided by way of referendum ALONE.
I didn't know that, but if what you say is correct, then looks like we were discussing a moot point.Originally posted by gasband:CHILD SEX is a global issue and is being fought against on a global platform. If someone were found surfing CHILD PORNOGRAPHY or have such materials stored on the computers or similar media....they should be charged regardless of their locations....so its the same for CHILD SEX.... i dun think any countries out there do not consider CHILD SEX a crime.... it is a crime everywhere and such offenders deserve to be punished.
To punish those who take drugs overseas is quite simple. Drugs stay in your body for about 30 days (give or take) after consumption. If at the airport your urine test shows traces of drugs, you have "abused drugs" and thus can be convicted in singapore.Originally posted by The man who was death:If our govt can already punish ppl who take drugs overseas, then punishing ppl who have child sex shouldn't be surprised, however if charging a person who have child sex overseas means we must bring the victim over to testify then we shouldn't punish the offenders
How do the Customs people find out who did drugs overseas? I read that some of them were found out after being subjected to random urine tests. There may be others who got away.Originally posted by SilverPal:To punish those who take drugs overseas is quite simple. Drugs stay in your body for about 30 days (give or take) after consumption. Heard about this from a foreign national.
As for child offenders, there is no way it can be so clear cut. Even if the offender didn't bathe after the act... The child has to testify (I think) to prove that the accused really did have sex with her.
