Malaysia govt do collect more Corp Tax value in percentage than SG... So in terms of dollar to dollar (Not SGD vs MYR), they should be collecting more money than us... So why are there corruption? -

Do you know why police are corrupt in Msia & Isia? Do you know how much they earn? How do you think they get by? Same for ministers.

We pay our Ministers a MILLION PLUS Singapore Dollar, yet the productivity level is questionable, when we have also additional MILLION DOLLAR Second-Minister and Minister-of-State, as well as SIX-FIGURE Salaried Permanent Secretaries ONE, TWO and THREE
Even the Prime Minister has at least THREE other Ministers WITHOUT PORTFOLIOS supporting his PM's Office, besides the SIX-FIGURE salaried Personal Secretary, Press Secretary.
For a small Republic, we have NINETEEN Ministers in our Singapore Cabinet to work with the Singapore Prime Minister, compared with FIFTEEN Secretaries heading the various departments (ministries) in the Cabinet needed to support the US President
Is this not cronyism to get loyal Political Party members on the Singapore band wagon and get paid the MILLION DOLLAR Salary ?
If each Minister is paid S$1.5Million annually, our salary bill for all 19 ministers will be S$28.5 Million a Year.
If the US President and his 15 Secretaries are each paid US$300,000 a year (see below), the ANNUAL wage bill to the US Citizens is only US$4.5 MILLION
There are many ways to milk the Treasury - Saddam Hussein and Ferdinand Marcos treat the National Treasury as their Private Bank Account, and moved the entire amount out of the Country when they were overthrown.
We are doing it in a more legalistic and legitimate way by legislating into Law the wages payable to the Cabinet, a legislative piece that is proposed by the Ruling Party forming the Government, and with a Parliament that is dominated by themselves - passing a Law that benefit themselves.
Why compare our situation with our neighbors and adopt a condescending 'holier than thou' attitude ?

2. I am for the ethnic quota but against gerrymandering the GRC system that keep growing in size in the name of racial harmony.
3. The elected presidency is a mockary of the system as the elected presidency candidate is already elected by the 4 "wise men" and the people are only "voting" the choice of the 4 "wise men" or worse still the elected presidency is a walkover eversince it started.

1. GRASSROOT ORGANISATIONS : NON-POLITICAL ?
From a whole list of 'grass-roots' groups that include the Senior Citizens' Executive Committee, Women's Executive Committee, Malay Activity Executive Committee, Indian Activity Executive Committee, People's Association Youth Movement, Civil Defence Executive Committee, Consituency Sports Club - can it be truthfully said that the Residential Committee, Citizens Consultative Committees, Citizens Development Committee, Neighborhood Committee - APOLITICAL ?
Even MM LKY had stated that he acknowledged that he had depened on these groups to be the EYES and EARS of the Singapore Government, and was specifically set up by the Ruling Political Party, so as to allow them to have constant regular feed back of the rumbles on the ground.
All these grass-roots groups are under the umbrella of the PEOPLE'S ASSOCIATION, with its head being a political appointee, and its mission role spelled out to implement the Ruling Party's vision of social engineering.

2. HDB ETHNIC QUOTA SCHEME
For over THIRTY YEARS, since the HDB began building houses for Singaporeans, it was only during the late 1970s - as a result of the manner in which concentrations of certain racial groups responded to certain electioneering candidates from a certain racial group - that the Government responded by diluting concentrations of any one racial groups that vote along ethnic lines.
This HDB policy was successful in dismantling the minority Malay Community, but it did not resolve ethnic politics practised by the larger and majority Chinese Community.
This policy had actually acted against the MINORITY ETHNIC GROUPS - in that the choice of buyers in the resale market is restricted only to members from the minority group.
3. GROUP REPRESENTATIVE CONSTITUENCIES
With the successful implementation of the ETHNIC QUOTA SYSTEM in controlling any one concentration of any minority group that can vote along ethnic lines, the GRC was implemented to ensure that the Minority Race will be proportionally represented in Parliament, and in Government when possible.
Unfortunately, the Ruling Party exploited the success of the GRC in ensuring a 'walk-over' for new and untested candidates from the incumbent Ruling Party, and began to expand the GRC - from its original four constituencies in one group - into six constituencies into one Group.
However, with all the supposedly good intention of having racial harmony and social integration, has the HDB ETHNIC QUOTA SYSTEM and the GRC actually achieve its goal of social integration, or has the gap between the different ethnic groups widen ?
With HDB neighbors seldom going beyond the courtesy greetings when meeting each other in the common areas, and with PRIVACY being valued more accutely amongst HDB residence, has there been any social integration amongst the races ?
Has the minority Member of Parliament in any GRC been any more effective in representing the views from their constituents, when it is Party Politics first over the Singapore Electorates and the Constituents.
4. THE ELECTED PRESIDENCY
This post was first created, it had its role clearly marked out as the KEEPER of the SECOND KEY that unlocks the National Reserves.
When this 'Second Key' concept was tested by the late Ong Teng Cheong it caused so much acrimony from within the Ruling Elite that it resulted in a RETHINK to the original role planned for it.
This was made necessary, as for the Elected President to perform its role conscientiously, it required the complete revelation in the accounting of the National Reserves - as managed by the Ministry of Finance, Government Investment Corporation, Temasek Holdings, and a string of Government Related Agencies, Statutory Boards, and Government Linked Companies operating with funds from the Singapore Government.
This resulted in inconvenience to the Ruling Elite, and it required a SECOND THOUGHT to the limited powers already given to the Elected Presidency - and further clipped his wings in having any authority to effectively perform his role as the Guardian of the National Reserve.
The Elected President will hold the KEY, but will not be in any position to seek any more information than what has been made known for him to look after.
The Elected President is no more then acting according to the will of the Ruling Elite.
What does this mean for the future of Singapore ?
Can the same Elected President be any more effective in being a GUARDIAN of the National Reserves - if ever a situation should arise that ANOTHER POLITICAL PARTY happen to replace the present RULING POLITICAL PARTY ?
The Ruling Party has not been infallible in their vision, and they have set off a few time bombs during their monopolistic arrogant grip on political power in Singapore.
The biggest time bombs are from their Family Planning Policy and the fact that they have removed competitive spirit of Singaporeans by the sheer dominance of the Ruling Party and its Government Linked Companies in wiping private enterprise and competition in Singapore. -

It will be an uphill tasks for any Political Party that takes over from the PRESENT Ruling Political Party, as some of these posts have been protected by legislations passed by a Parliament that is controlled by the PRESENT Ruling Political Party.
There will be a major political re-organisation of the entire Government Administration - in the way it HAS BEEN RUN for the last Forty Years - all paying their respects and loyalty to the POWER OF ONE.
Can Singapore be VIBRANT when ALL SINGAPOREANS have to be obedient to the POWER OF ONE ?

a) Those in the RCs + CCCs are nothing but PAP stooges
b) HDB flats Racial Quotas are definite disadvantage to the minorities and it does not ensure that all races are mingling as they should in fact polarization of our Racial groups are getting worse than before with George Yeo ideologies.
c) EP is a mockery and what check has the president done except to check his bank account!

Our ministers must have a set of very good manifestos which are working well in solving citizens problems when they criticise or try to slam WP latest manifestos.
If so, May the ministers who spoke so strongly please enlighten the ignorant citizens why they are suffering from heavy drops in asset values, losing their life-long CPF savings and are struggling to make ends meet despite all the claims about successful turn around of the economy.
Show their own manifestos are for real and are effective in solving problems not full of assumptions and fallacious argumentations as the new technological age call for practical solutions to many real problems including loss of jobs due to changes and high costs of living.
May be the ministers should read the old newspaper cuttings which showed what they did and said during the last 2 recessions and how they denied repeatedly responsibility for unemployments and prolonged and widespread retrenchments and putting the blame on workers' for lack of skills.
If they have very good manifestos of their own surely they must be working and not producing so many problems as posted here in this forum and elsewhere.
Ministers should get real like what diana says on CNA and explain why if they have all the good manifestos they are now still contending with all the NKF and the 20 major policy errors still awaiting solutions. -

You can't compare a chair with a table. Our neighbours have a standard of living which is lower than us. If they are doing the same amount of work for $1000, and you expect us to get the same amount, how are we going to survive?
Electrical bills? Water bills? How about our parents? CPF contributions? Children's education? Food?
This is Singapore, not Finland whereby education is free. Even then, there are other things to consider.
