A brief eight-paragraph report dated Jan 18, 1971(Strait Times)described howfr 17/01/2006. STimes. Page: H4
Mr Lee (Hsien Loong)'s
mother came to see him in the Ulu Pandan barracks during
the unit's open day for parents. She came with a bag of kueh
(Malay cakes), but was told to take it
back as NSmen were not allowed to keep food gifts
'even if one is the son of the Prime Minister',
the report noted drily.

2.Then,PM LEE was most likely an Officer Cadet.Originally posted by dragg:do you really believe this?
the PM was a General. doesnt he know the rules?
Awarded the President's Scholarship in 1970 and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Scholarship in 1971,read this
Rules were draconian back in the 1970s. I saw parents bringing in Macca's breakfast for their sons in 2000 but nobody batted an eyelid. All thanks to the contributions of Record 3.Originally posted by Salman:I got food from my parents during visitation, so whats the problem?
Why was Hsien Loong's son being discriminated against? We need to do an inquiry into this. Was he discrimnated on the basis on who his father was? Poor fella...............
2.Sorry I refer to Mrs Lee Kuan Yew wanted to give kuek to PM Lee,Originally posted by Salman:I got food from my parents during visitation, so whats the problem?

Is it not obvious ?
Firstly, LHL was not yet a BG, only a miserable RECRUIT but his was not the LOW LIFE of any other Recruit.
His was leading a Recruit Life with a body guard in his bunk, with a Commanding Officer two ranks higher to conduct all military training that involved "risky and sensitive" manouvers that involve either his Section, or Platoon, or Company.
Our miserable low life only require our Platoon Commander to supervise our section or platoon training; but his Life will demand that the Company Commander supervise the Platoon training; and if the training involved the entire Company, the Battalion Commander will probably be present.
Live Firing will have to be carefully planned - and perhaps the ISD is involved to vet all those other Recruits' Family background before they are allowed to shoot up the hill.
Secondly, food can be eaten at the Dining Area during the visiting hours, but certainly CANNOT BE KEPT in the personal Wardrobe in the bunk area.
Daily stand-by bed was a sweat and the Low Life Recruit is always terrorized by the whimsical fancy of the Commander to poke his nose and finger to find the smallest fault that no one can imagine exist.
It is surprising that such experience never figure much in his anecdotes of early military experience ?
It is even more surprising that his military experience was so uneventful - except for the botched cable car rescue - that not much was ever spoken in all his speeches.
Does he deserve any kueh ?
Uh really? Condensed in what way?Originally posted by claudetnt:Atobe:
you forgot to mentioned that LHL was so privileged that the complete course at Safti had to been revamped in fact he was on an express condensed course that made a mockery of the whole system. After his passing out from saftri the course was reverted again so that others will not have the same benefits.

And not forgetting our beloved Defence Minister's sonOriginally posted by vito_corleone:my guess is that after lhl's son finishes his ns the service will revert back to 2.5 years so good luck to all future recruits.![]()

Read the thread again, if you want to contribute in a positive wayOriginally posted by Salman:That proves it. I think bias and injustice has been done on PM Lee Hsien Loong and his family.
Perhaps that is the price they have to pay for serving the country faithfully.
I propose a national inquiry into this incident! We will form a bipartisan committee for this with the powers to subpoena as well as impeach anybody. We need to get to the root of this.
