M'sia to build cynic bridge

Our govt was puzzled by MY decision to build the bridge. After dealing with them for the past 16 years over so many issues and our dear SM still don't know their tricks? Anyway, LHL made a smart move to ask GCT to negotiate with them.

Mahathir happy 22-year wait for bridge is over
KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is “very happy” that finally a decision has been made for Malaysia to go ahead with the scenic bridge on its side of the Johor Strait.
The former prime minister is also not surprised that Singapore has not agreed to jointly build the bridge to replace the Causeway.
“I have waited 22 years, and we still have not gotten the permission to even raise (the price of raw water sold to Singapore) from 3 sen to 4 sen. So if you want to wait, you can wait until kingdom come,” he told reporters yesterday after launching EduSmith, a local magazine for students.
It was reported yesterday that Malaysia would build the bridge, and work would start after the Chinese New Year.
The report also said that the bridge would now be referred to as “scenic” bridge instead of ”crooked bridge”. The bridge was termed “crooked” because of its shape. It will be built only on the Malaysian side.
In jest, Dr Mahathir said: “I thought it was ‘cynic’ bridge. Is that how you spell it?”

It's all about water isn't it?
New bridge will not have the pipe to carry water. If SG wants water from M'sia, M'sia can then demand higher water price before building the pipe citing the costs of building the pipe will be very high. -

the northern chaps just like to squeeze our balls ....
the water deal is a goverment to goverment agreement based on a previously agreed fixed priced ... they can't just unilaterally raise the price like they threaten to do everytime .... that's the crux of the whole problem ... remember when MM himself went to KL and negotiated another water deal, and got snookered by Mahatir after he got back ? ... how to cut a clean deal with a group who keeps shifting the goalpost ? ... -

Yes the contract is in place. Which is why I said, they build the bridge so they can demand from us higher water price.

DR M is losing his mind and cannot remember what he said. He want to raise the water to rm$6 - RM$10. Not 3 to 4 sen. Our LKY offer 60sen, DR M refuses. Dr M wanted to wait until we throw in the towel as no water we die, so he never wanted to sign the water contract along, till singapore knee down and beg.
that moment never arrive. Johore even transfer the authority to federal KL to decide so that KL can get the income of water sale. The earlier water agreement was signed between johore and singapore and not federal KL.
they sell to selangor about 30sen to 40sen. Even till today selangor feel its still expensive. 60 sen was a good deal. If not johore would have more money in its pocket, can even be more than federal KL income.
whatever increase will translate to whatever johore buys back for treated water. not to mention singapore PUB invested more than $100 million in ongoing water infrastruture projects in johore to maintain and increase supply. All these assets will go to johore gov once the contract ends. But federal KL wants a big piece of the cake.
Now they want to make southern johore suffer even more by diverting money to the RM$1b bridge. Kelantan resisted because of the income from oil revenues. federal KL took quite a lot and left a few bucks for kelantan. Thats why kelantan is always resisting KL. toll money collected going to huge and every officials wants a bit of the actions. -
I am wondering how the train is going to cross the crooked bridge?

There will be grave consequence if any water pipes touched without the explict
consent of Sg.
HOW TO LAY THE PIPES EVEN SG AGREE THE SCENIC BRIDGE
There are only 2 options.
1.This will reduce the depth of water level for navigation if put them on sea bed .
2.Can the water pumps strong enough to pump up the water running along the bridge.? -
Singapore government should take a harder appoarch towards their m'sian counterparts.

yah this mahathir is a loose cannon, step down already still want to interfere and undermine the new malaysian administration. After a while people will see it's a senior citizen ravings ... trying to relive his past glories ... blah blah blah... We shud let him talk all he wants ah, he needs the exercise otherwise his mind will grow mad .. let him talk until he snook himself then somebody will sued him.

i think in DS 21--Defending Spore in the 21st Century ,Sg made very clear she wil protect her property
overseas.So,what will happen if any water supply/pipes.
reservoirs,pumping stations,etc in NORTH is affected?
The discuption of water supply will take weeks ,if not months.
Pray MY would not do any thing affecting the water supply.
Pl be noted that even the pipes or water supply is adversly
affected by any works of MY,the consquences would be the same.
Is there any power behind giving back up to our neighbour??

1) How to connect the water pipe... ?
You mean water to singapore will be cut temporary to facilitate the pipe construction ?
As someone mentioned along sea bed ?
2) Even longer jams and more dangerous slope.... ?
Imagine being stuck on the bridge either up or down slope.. accident bait.
3) Trains Track ?
Can trains go up steep slopes... does it have the power ?
4) Trailer Trucks ?
As point 2 and 3...
I mean tourist to johor is already in the decline.. it would simply fuel more inconvenience to the demise of johor.. really.
Goods tranportation will push us to Batam... -
aiya, MY construction will take ages lah, by the time they want to start piling, the contruction company might already gone belly up. or being investigate for corruption etc.
Honestly I would perfer to let MY build the bridge, so that they will stop blaming singapore for their own failure. -

malaysia is a very funny country. instead of working with our govt for a win-win situation they choose to pick issues and blow things out of position.

i wish they will continue and build this crooked bridge which will always remind us of all the crooked politicians when what they are capable of doing!
Good lesson for our second and third generation leaders who were confident that their talks with their counterparts on these issues had made progress instead the Malayasians had once again sprung another surprise! -
singapore should just sent agents to bomb the construcion and just act dumb say terrorists...

Scenic bridge? They are off their mind
It will just become a joke of the world
They say the bridge is to clear pollution, ya ya, they have no proper pollution control. They wanted it to divert traffic away, but dun think possible as of emergence of container ships like OOCL Shenzhen or MSC Pamela that are around 9,000 TEU in capacity

Currently, ships must sail around Singapore to get from the Strait of Malacca to the South China Sea but with the causeway dismantled, ships can sail directly from Tanjung Pelapas to Pasir Gudang without going around Singapore. Therefore, businessmen would choose Malaysia over Singapore due to lower prices. I think this is Malaysia's attempt to drive Singapore into a corner since they failed to get Thailand to build the Kra Canal across the Isthmus of Kra.
