Nope you have done something right. IPeople must stand for something or else they might fall for anything. That is the biggest danger to the citizens as they end up in the animal farm. Even if I can download from the web, if I happen to pass by, or go that way, I will buy one copy.Originally posted by abao:haa...doesnt that mean i've wasted $5
Essential items should be GST exempt. There should be a luxury tax for items' costing beyond a certain price, say upper range automobiles that are >$250K.Originally posted by sbst275:So ppl here is saying they support the way of scrapping the HDB racial quota and the unrealistic no taxing of GST on essential items?
It's not saying that I dun like the maifesto... But some can work but some wun
But do you know in the real situation, current non GST taxed goods as in the biz dun make $1M in revenue a year, GST still has to be paid by the GST registrered party i.e. provision shops... Unless there are ways to solve, but I doubt as it ends up with the cash register memory overloadedOriginally posted by LazerLordz:Essential items should be GST exempt. There should be a luxury tax for items' costing beyond a certain price, say upper range automobiles that are >$250K.
HDB racial quotas can stay, but the need to sell flats due to economic hardship should come first.I'd say grant the town council administrators more powers to lift this on a case by case basis.
But I really think that the PAP is also lambasting the WP manifesto with pure rhetoric, and not real solutions or counter-proposals.We need practical things that work..![]()
Mandatory sentences for offences should be removed as they take away the discretion of the judge to adjust a sentence to suit the individual case circumstances. Under the current system of mandatory sentences, the real power to determine the offender's sentence shifts from the Courts to the prosecution who will decide which charge to proceed on to produce the appropriate sentence. This encourages plea-bargaining which makes the justice less transparent as the exercise of prosecutorial desration cannot be reviewed or appealed against.somehow.. i dun quite buy this.
Cannot say until like that lar.Originally posted by sbst275:So ppl here is saying they support the way of scrapping the HDB racial quota and the unrealistic no taxing of GST on essential items?
The law I am referring to, if I recall correctly, was passed just a year or two ago. And coincided with the new laws on the Baby bonuses and all that. The only thing I recall about it was the fact that it was reported in the ST in one single paragraph of about maybe 30 words or less amidst the big incentives of the Baby bonus and all the "good" stuff. If I also remember correctly, the EP is mentioned.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Yes, I recall the appaling lack of public discourse about the access to the reserves by the GLCs.
Is this the one?

Racial harmony is important but the HDB quota has produced some perverse effect.Originally posted by sbst275:So ppl here is saying they support the way of scrapping the HDB racial quota and the unrealistic no taxing of GST on essential items?

It is an dangerous thinkingOriginally posted by Calvin86:Racial harmony is important but the HDB quota has produced some perverse effect.
For example in the general elections
In 1988 PAP has 64% of the votes but won 80 out of 81 seats.
In 1991, PAP has only 61% of the popular vote but won 77 out of 81 seats.
In 1997, PAP has only 65% of the popular vote but won 81 out of 83 seats.
If the population is truly randomly distributed , i tried to calculate the probability of the event occuring
http://faculty.vassar.edu/lowry/binomialX.html
For 1998 the probability is <0.000001
For 1991 the probability is <0.000001
For 1997 the probability is also <0.000001
If you stare hard at the facts, the racial quota system also has the indirect effect of supressing the votes of the minorities. Honestly if i am the minority, i would vote for abolishment of the quota.
The amendment was included in the same package. But not debated upon.Originally posted by charlize:The law I am referring to, if I recall correctly, was passed just a year or two ago. Congrats to ur party, GMS!!! I think u ppl have comw up with a well thought-up manifesto, although - as a student - I would still argue for a less economic focus in the section on education. The students should not merely be seen as the future workers or in terms of the economic benefit, current or potential, they can provide to the nation; That, I believe, was the PAP's mistake.Originally posted by goh meng seng:For those of you who are interested in taking a look at Workers' Party manifesto, you could go to the following link:
